Since the server crash that happened on December 28, I've seen players getting disconnected upon undocking. The rationale is, in my more than one decade in playing Discovery, I haven't encountered this problem until now, which leads me to consider a more direct approach to this issue.
It seems to be related to the long loading time (not ping-related) since patch 5.0 came out, as @Aingar pointed out already with the "slow hard drive" problem. Most frequently, this occurs on the first undock after booting up my PC. Back then, it wouldn't issue me a disconnect after waiting 30 seconds to 1 minute, but now, the game disconnects me. Other players have even been banned due to this.
So, while I understand Discovery becomes less friendly (performance-wise) for older PCs, at least eliminating this issue would be a great idea. How could a server crash create a persistent disconnect issue?
I have the same issue. Since 5.0 the loading time is hella long and sometimes I get kicked as soon as the loading finishes and the ship is launched to space. I can reconnect back and my ship is already in space
I've been having the same issues for a while now. Here's some information I gathered,
Check your antivirus and firewall that no .DLL files were blocked or quarantined. (Be careful of restoring quarantined files, they can be out of date for the game, so check that you don't need to reinstall by checking the creation date in your Discovery Freelancer installation folder.
When you undock, press and hold the
Code:
[Shift]+[F12] while you click on "LAUNCH"
(sometimes this works, sometimes it doesn't, but it does help often)
When you are waiting for the LOADING screen, if the ship you are going to fly is a capital or Large Transport, press
Code:
[ESC] and release, then press [F2]
then release before it launches.
This is not an exhaustive list, but I know the admins are aware of the issue and are looking for solutions. Also, check that your antivirus is not overtaxing your Disco Freelancer.exe and the other .DLL files. You can add them to the exceptions list. But also keep in mind that some of the .DLL files use older coding because of the age of the game, and some of that coding has been used to make threats in the past, so the Antivirus communities have deemed the coding as harmful, even though in this instance it is not.
Also, there is this forum Where you can read up on other people's issues with similar circumstances. Help and Support

I have no SSD Card or drive, so it's not going to help me much.
That being said, the pressing of Shift+F12 is completely hit or miss. It seems the current version is causing the issue because I have had higher ping in the past and faster access. This is a problem in the way 5.0 loads the info. I started trying to play tonight at 2:49pm, it's now 6pm. and I've been working on it the whole time. It's not helping. The game won't load appropriately. And to make matters worse, I was booted 3 times, when I finally got back on the game, I'm 100K from the nearest dock.

Try disabling Defender does that make any difference?
