Are there any factions left that will offer me what I want? I'm sorry if this sounds like a bitching thread, I don't want it to be. I want someone to point me the way to a wonderful faction that will fulfill my desires and make me want to continue playing this great game. With such a question, I think that it would be best if I explained what it is that I want and a little background as to why I'm becoming distraught enough to post this.
When I started my first character, I was filled with excitement and wonder. I've spent hours reading the rules of the server, and posts that experienced players have made as to how the game should be played, and how role playing should be incorporated. My first character worked his way to Mactan to join the Lane Hackers, thinking that it would be the best faction for me to start in. The Lane Hackers sounded like everything I wanted: they were strictly RP, they sounded like they worked as a team and demanded that their adherents follow stringent rules. It sounded like a faction worth joining, plus, the thread(s) were well organized and pleasing to the eye. So, after fulfilling every requirement to join (I realize that I can still be refused), I arrived at Mactan base, playing out my Role Play idea. I turned to my often read and bookmarked recruitment thread and spent almost an hour trying to make a good impression with my appeal to join. And I waited. I decided to just do some playing around with my character, running missions and the like, but a Dagger can only do so much.
So, I started a new character to spend my time with, I conceived of a character built specifically to follow a storyline that I had in my head. I built a journal to follow his travels through Rheinland that would lead god knows where, but I'd role play the hell out of and enjoy. I had ideas as to what would happen to him, but only vague. I was optimistic. Maybe, I would run into an interesting and active faction and have to prove myself with an interesting mission! Perhaps even just run into a member of a faction that would take the time to talk to me and interest me in their ideals. Nope. Nothing. Granted, I didn't play with this character enough for this to really happen, but since I downloaded the mod (about a month ago), I have played for at least two hours a day (conservative guess to make me sound like less of a looser, heh). All of my time playing has been spread out throughout the day to try to best catch other players so that I could join them. To this day, I have been in a grand total of one group. One. And in that group, only one person (other than me) attempted to RP, and he was a member of Hellfire (part of the reason I went for either LH or HF membership). I'm not saying that you don't have awesome players, I've met a few. The HF I mentioned, one Navy member was fun to play with, and a guy named Dragon's Teeth that helped me learn the game and answered my questions. That was great. But one group?
If I wanted to play with myself, I'd go single player which has the added bonus of zero ping (not a complaint, just a joke to lighten the mood here).
Where is the role play that you advertise? Where are the active factions that maybe go on made up missions where they are trying to steal intel from an enemy base or something? Maybe a real conflict? I might be way off base, and these things may exist, but I've yet to see them. I love the game. Even more, I love the Discovery mod and the ideas that it represents. But those ideals are either sadly missing, or extremely difficult to locate.
Please, help a pilot led astray. I feel like I'm floating alone in my escape hatch with a beautiful world around me that I can only see, but not touch.
Ventana, that frustrates me. Did you read my post? I said that I've spent hours combing this forum. How do you think I decided that Lane Hackers sounded like a good fit? I don't mean to sound ungrateful, but that just doesn't help. Perhaps you cannot tell by my writing, but if you look closely... do I sound like I'm a teenager unable to read? The problem ended up being that I'm still waiting for Moriarty to hit the boards and read my post. It's been since April since he's been on the boards. I don't intend to insult Moriarty, but have you seen him in game lately? I'm sure he has better things to do, and he's busy, and I'll never fault a person for that, but I'd love to know so that I don't spend my time sprinting towards a dead end because it had a fancy sign in front of it.
Darthbeck, that sounds like a good proposal, but why? Do the Rogues fit the bill that I have described? Do you often have players on together that role play and try to achieve goals as a team? If so, you can't imagine how happy I would be to join, but I want to know first, before I spend my time working towards that goal.
Note that I am no longer a member of the faction... But I feel comfortable in suggesting the Xeno Alliance as a good place to check out. The Xeno community is, I feel, spectacular and will provide you with a great opportunity for teamwork in an environment that will contribute very heavily towards familiarizing yourself with a wide array of additional factions, combat experience and some of the better personalities within Discovery.

Hey there, 98% of all the factions on Discovery do exactly:
Quote:have players on together that role play and try to achieve goals as a team
The LR do a fantastic job with it as well.
I do not mean to be sarcastic, especially since there are 2% of factions(not pointing fingers) who do not really do that, and just go around lolwutting people and shooting at others.

Rheinland was not the best of choices to start with, Me and 3 of my friends do a small Gunboat patrol, and thanks to the embargo (Albiet to a lesser extent now that Liberty has lightened up) Much of Rheinland could oftentimes be dead. Start off as a Libertonian, theres nothing wrong with being an Indy. I agree wholeheartedly with whomever suggested Xenos, that would be one of my favorite players, and he's not a member of the alliance. Factions add to the RP, they don't make it.
Every day, i play and see new LNS gunboats ive never seen logging on. join the RM or RFP (We have Super heavy fighters) or the other many military factions, Or bretonia!
i think librety is congested enough, Xenos? maybe, but if you want Pirate action , the RHA is your best bet, since they can go to the omegas and fight Corsairs.

Rogues do fit that bill. We do get together daily ( and i belong to a time zone which sees minimum activity on disco) and we have a lot of fun together.
About the group missions though. Why dont you take the initiative and intro the idea to the group ?
I am 100 % confident that the rogues will always be ready to participate in good RP. We always do !

And that is completely true. The XA is indeed a fun faction to fly with. IT has a totally new feel to it.
And talking about the missions that you mentioned, i just thought some very good stuff with the XA which i'll be talking to joe about soon. (credit for them goes to Dusty though... i'm sure he mentioned it sometime...)
