Project Onryo is a J17P 95P "Chimaera" Kusari Navy Heavy Fighter outfitted and modified for an aggressive pursuer role in combat. Its design specification is to be the lead pursuer of a group target in a fleet engagement, with the ability to use specialised, rapid-fire Musashi Innovations prototypes with reduced power core drain. The result of the design spec should be a ruthless, agile chaser that few fighter pilots could shake off, with unrelenting fire taking down what is in its sights.
Specifications:
Project Onryo involves tuning the Chimaera Heavy Fighter towards a highly specialised role, with revamps to its software systems, interior and hardware.
The hardware of the ship has been dramatically overhauled: the old Sunfrenzy photon weaponry has been unmounted, and replaced with a Musashi Innovations prototype designed for rapid fire. The powerplant has been re-wired with components switched out for experimental designs with the goal of increasing power gain, optimising medium-length performance and allowing for experimental power cables to further benefit power flow across the ship. The old Positron shield generator has been replaced with a custom Musashi design, integrated closely with the power plant upgrades mentioned previously.
All gains in power were redirected to the custom shielding system, allowing for the previously bottlenecked weaponry and a new ECM module to use more of the main system's power. The stock thruster has been replaced with a high performance thruster from Deep Space Engineering (originally used for early-stage racing prior to the new engines coming out into the market) to aid in pursuit of targets. The avenue of newer-generation racing engines were considered, however they were found to be catastrophically ineffective when hit with a cruise disruptor. Older variants do not have this vulnerability.
The dated software on the old ships has been patched to fix vulnerabilities. An additional screen was installed to accommodate an ECM module on the ship to prevent electronic warfare attempts through the use of an adaptive mounted jammer. An experimental cyber attack connected to the IFF system has also been installed, however through testing, the effectiveness depends on the model of the ship. The power distribution system has been modified to prioritise weaponry over shield management, working in tandem with the power plant and shielding system replacements.
The interior has seen minor changes to improve comfort - the chair was elevated, and the flight stick has been replaced with an ergonomic variant for easier precision control.

SECRET-SENSITIVE
20th of January: Development well underway and the ship is already almost fully disassembled. We have quite a shopping list to replace, but it seems straightforward enough.
22nd of January: Some power core components have some compatibility issues with this older design of the Chimaera. Will need to update the design spec and get new parts made.
29th of January: Progress is slow. The new shielding system has been installed, but without the power plant online, we can't test functionality. The weapons have been mounted and experimental wires hooked up to the plant output. Still waiting for parts.
3rd February: The plant is online, and it seems like everything is working. Readings report odd fluctuations and power spikes, will need some calibration.
14th February: An intern acted on the order to purchase an ergonomic flight stick. It arrived, and it's fluffy. I think I'm going to fire this intern.
20th of February: After some more delay on parts, we now have the full set. Just need to re-calibrate the weapon and shielding systems. May need to replace the power distribution software, it doesn't seem to be capable of reserving power as the design spec says it should.
28th February: The electronic warfare module added to the ship seems to have modifications from the typical design. Based on our testing it seems to be unable to pierce through defenses on the Eagle ship line and Wyverns. The latter is expected outside of some outdated systems, the former is extremely odd - the original version seemed capable. The custom version of the software seems to be a request from higher-ups. Still better than what the KNF have in operation on these ships.
30th of February: Concern raised with EW functionality, advised this is intended. I've noticed the version of the ECM is different from typical too, but unable to discern a difference. Testing continues, we should be ready to release it soon.
