The void offers a great fun for anyone who is willing to try it. Whether you find yourself in a middle of clan wars or attacked by a rogue, or perhaps fight the nomads, or simply being a trader, it doesn't matter - the void will make you return and play Freelancer in a way you have never seen, again and again.
The Void mod now includes over 115 distinctive and unique space systems for the players to visit and explore. This coupled with over 2,500 locations to land makes the The Void one of, if not the largest Freelancer Multiplayer servers remaining. The 2115 mod also moves Freelancer away from the standard multi player platform and enters the MMO environment due to the quantity of content added to the mod.
To ensure all types of player are catered for, new ships, weaponry and new commodities to trade with have also been added. In addition to these and adding to the already immersive game play are new NPC factions and additional role play functionality for players.
The not-for-profit community and fan site coupled with the huge multiplayer server has continued to grow and expand even though the game is over six years old.
Whilst the game spawned many multi player servers in its infancy of release, very few have been able to continue to expand, add new players and provide new elements to the game as successfully as The Void. This is recognised in the number of new players registering (for free) at the community website – http://www.voidserver.com.
The community of players now over 10,000 and over 7,000 active community members provides a wealth of insight into the success and development of the original game and confirms that the Freelancer game still attracts new players.
The long awaited space game – Freelancer was released some six years ago to great acclaim and excellent reviews from critics, however, few thought that after six years the game would still have a healthy multiplayer community. Microsoft Game Studios described the game as experiencing a vast, open-ended universe filled with an infinite number of adventures. You are the freelancer Edison Trent, an intergalactic jack-of-all-trades. Your mission: whatever you want. Become a smuggler or a ruthless space thug, a naval hero or a trader. Dodge through asteroid fields while piloting elite spacecraft. The action is endless as you make your way through 48 known star systems. Greed, morality, compassion, anger... whatever motivates you, the dynamic universe will respond. Take the first step. The universe is waiting.
Void always appealed to me for the dynamic economy. But for now, my tent pegs will be placed in Discovery, I can't split anymore of my free time to learn an entire new mod pack.
Void is great fun & quite a different experience to Disco. People there are very friendly & if you want to duel & say "gf" nobody is going to write a sanction report. That said their galaxy is a tad pointless, its stupidly easy to make money (so the dynamic economy sort of fails) & most players hang out in 3 systems.
They do have enormous 3d systems, but you'll see Planetform on one base, the Xeno's in the next & this will be in a system off Gamma. These systems are pretty empty as players want to kill players & not random NPCs, but if you accept that this is the Void focus its not a big deal.
My advice is go there to have fun shooting other players, and don't expect anything immersive. In-between my exams its my home, but once they are over I'm back on Disco.
To be frankly honest, despite my great experiences on disco, Void will always be a second home. To me, it kinda exemplifies the FL experience, the fact that it is essentially a Massively Multiplayer FPS, something that many games can't achieve even today.
Good server, I'd recommend people to try it out.

Discovery and Void were the two mods I downloaded when I started playing Freelancer again last year. I played Void first, and it was very fascinating. Lots of places to explore but nearly no people. I ended up going with Discovery because Roleplay had more interest to me.
I loved how your ships' computer in Void says "Hostile Detected" or something when an enemy npc shows up on your scanners.
Of course The Void is a place which lost massive numbers of players after they released the new mod. From steady 80 it went down to 40 of average online. However in the recent times player numbers have been going up again.
The 3D systems are emtpy and unproperly balanced, but you should know that as I am writing this, the admin team is working on a new mod, which will improve these systems.

(Really, I speak terrible English, so please, tell me if I make mistakes. I'd like to improve it a bit )
