Twice now, once in each direction, I have been jumping from Languedoc to Orkney or vice versa and been destroyed by mines. Has this happened to anyone else?

Be kinder than necessary, because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.

Were you by chance flying a very large ship? It could be possible that the rear end got hit.

It's happened to me in the Starflier I flew out to make a Council Agama.

It needs a tad bit of work, methinks.

That's odd, I flew there once and all I heard were mines exploding without doing damage, since I was still in the cutscene

I've flown my junker pirate train several times through the omnicron 80 jumphole and i never had that problem

I've had this issue several times.
From what I've observed when you approach the jumphole at a higher speed, it's more likely that you'd get blown up by the mines.

Someone else willing to test this ?

It's probably a good idea if the next update slightly increases the 'clear space' between the JH and the mines.

Once I was in the Gallic LF, once in the Brigands HF. Neither is what you would call a 'large' ship.

I have noted exploding mines around me at the beginning of jump. Big ship can survive it.

Cleaning some space in the jumping direction will fix this issue.

I've noticed this but it's never been much of a problem outside of the effects and sounds.
