Ok, I have played on discovery before the new beta version, and it worked fine. As soon as the beta came out, I was not able to play, I couldn't find any advice on anything about it, and I desided to quit.
Then I found the FL disk :wacko:.
I uninstalled FL, the FL mod set-up, and everything related I could find, and reinstalled FL, the Mod set-up, and a Charater back-up thing (didn't do this last time). I tried to play again, but I found I couldn't conect to the servers, and I remembered I need the work around, which I can't find ANYWHERE on this site. I found one thing about switching the target location, but ever sense I did that FL doesnt work. It starts up, shows me the "FreeLancer" loading screen, but before it can get to the menu, it stops, closes, and Microsoft tells me I was experiencing a problem and had to shut down the game.
If there is a full-blown set-up list that goes from putting the disk in to playing the game, please give me the link, make it easier to find, and if there is none, make one!
Installed, tried it again, and still the same problem.
Edit: tried diffrent things to make it work, and found that FL doesn't even seem to be on my computer, even though I downloaded it. everything is there... the files, the mods, even the set-up files, read-me's, and program files for it. FL just seems to... not exist :(.
I will try to download it again, but does anyone have a reasoning for this so I could avoid it in the future?
((Oh, and found out I did backup my files :yahoo:)
Well, I kept working on it, and after DLing the workaround again, all seems to be working! FL worked, the mods showed up, got to the internet servers and they showed up! let me look for Discovery and.... and.... Wait...? I can't connect? It says some outragous mod number 48.57 or something to that effect. I am stumped on what the problem is.

Also, I don't yet understand how to upload my old account, and I keep hearing of something called disko. If anyone can help or fill me in, it would be greatly appreciated.
well, the 48.57 means that we're running beta 7 of 4.85 (I don't think it likes more than 2 numbers after the decimal point)
You need to download 4.85 beta 4 I think, then use DSupdater.exe which is located in the exe folder to update it to beta 7. then you'll be ready to play on this server.
Well, I don't exactly understand what .exe folder your talking about. is the updater in FL? the Mods? Or is there a link I can download this? Again, I can't find anything to help me on finding this folder/program.
Oh, I now know its disco, not disko (german) and its a abrevation of Discovery.
I thought it would be in the Mod manager, but I have found the updater. At first it gave me a "cannot update due to...." message, and then when ever I clicked it, it started up FL. This morning I tried it again, and it loaded up! I could finnaly connect to the best game on earth!
But my last and hopefully last problem in how do I load my old accout into my new one?
Unfortunately, if it's been more than 40 days since you last played, then your characters have probably been deleted. However, if it's less than 40 days then to restore your characters, just load up your backup program (well, if it is or works the same as freelancer account manager), then choose import account, find the backup file that you made and you should be ready to use your old characters.
If it has been more than 40 days then Majkp might be able to help you, since he's the one who deals with the software side of the server, and he might be able to help if you give him your old character names. If not, give me a character name and I'll set you up with a few million to start you off.
Thanks. I don't have a name yet, for I wanted to start off with my old username. My old username was Xylon, if you can't tell, and I should have a new name done by the end of the day. Thanks again for your help, and for the money if your still offering it.
