Well, I know it may be a dodgy topic but no insult is intended upon the people behind the characters. I'm speaking strictly of the characters here.

Getting pirated in Omega 3 today and I HAD to ask a corsair as to weather he was fat or not, out of curiosity. Because let's just think for a second, pirates must do alot less work behind the wheel when their pirating, especially when their pirating in numbers. So alot less work than for example a trader, who is constantly on the move. The most work a pirate can get away with in an hour is a simple press of a button to send a warning shot towards a trader or whatnot. This alongside the life of luxury filled with wine, banquets and treasure (yarr) must send their fitness into decline.

An interesting take if i may say so myself.

Think about it.

I'd say, in the majority, no. The corsairs suffer from a food crisis, the outcasts are thin due to cardamine removing their hunger etc. and i believe they have a difficult job evading he BH, and lawful forces.

I'd imagine that a pilot has to be in good physical condition to withstand the physical g-forces, think fighter pilot. Perhaps not whilst actually in space, but when entering/leaving atmosphere.

You got me thinking, if even the fighter ships have artifical gravity generators then you can have two possibilities either you are always pulled down with 1G into your chair in this case flying doens't require or help you being fit. This sounds plausible as you aren't sensing the Earth spinning either (1833km/h).

or you are affected by gravity as if you were in a planet atmosphere while flying in which case fat pirates of smaller craft would be rare due to the physical strain caused just by flying the ship both in atmosphere and in space.

Piracy is a hard life! Hauling all those goods off of your ships and into our holds, and then out of our holds and into the commodity merchants keeps us fit and strong. Not like you layabout traders, for whom everything is automated!

pirating cargo involves boarding ship so pirates are often good hand to hand fighters and light arm users.

Lies! You have tractor beams, also pirate bases have well manned docking bays as well.

It would be amusing to see a pirate in spaceshuit trying to tuck one of the cargo containers I've just jettisoned, into his ship.;)

I roleplay my Junker as a Bretonian metal worker who sneers at the puny space-attrophied Outcasts and malnourished Corsairs alike. You don't need to be big to fly a spaceship well, but once you're out of the ship and in a bar where the Junkers check all the guns at the door...

Well I'm fairly big. I weigh just under 160kg, am 184cm tall and have a limp.
I don't know why I said I have a limp but I felt it needed to be said. I am also able to manufacture HUGE quantities of navel 'fluff' due to my hairy torso rubbing on the inside of my clothes.
I hope that information helps and you weren't eating when you read it.

One other thing, I am a Junker and I have dabbled either side of the law, fairly successfully.

I think a few hacker GB captains are fat. But the commen pirate? I think they dont have enough money to get the food to make themselves fatt. And they kinda suit a wiry style.
