So one thing I noticed that in PvP dogfights, most players employ the technique of "Jousting", or thrusting toward their opponent, cutting engines, and then firing like crazy as they whiz by. I was interested if anyone has any other methods they use in PvP fights, because jousting gets pretty old pretty quick.
One thing I've been meaning to try is to zigzag around the battlefield using engine cut, but I can't decide whether this is a legitimately useful technique.
You know, I've had problems with the "Zig-Zag" idea too. I've tried to work with it with varying degrees of success. It seems mostly dependent on the other pilot's skill. Basically, if they have any, I get toasted.
While Jousting, try to strafe in all directions, it's harder to aim, but makes you extremely hard to hit. If you're up for some sparring, I'm always down. PM me just in case I happen to loose track of this thread.
Heh, and let me know if you get that Zig thing down.
if the enemie spams mines/missles, TCD him and launch a few of your own
try to catch him as he's launching so when his mines detonate they'll hurt him too. peope usually have a patttern in whitch they unleash the mines, monitor that and TCD at the right moment .
if fighting a BS in a bomber, fly closely around it's hull, i'd imagine trying to catch up in turret view would be very annoying.
at the moment "Jousting" is the most effective way of fighting 1v1 with other VHFs or Bombers vs fighters, and even with some capital ships. That is why everyone does it, and until someone can invent a new, more effective way of fighting it'll likely to continue to be that way.
However, Light Fighters and Heavy Fighters use different combat strategies, because jousting with those ships will likely get you killed much faster.
Bomber vs capial ship combat also varies greatly from the Jousting technique. But by enlarge, Jousting is the way to go. You can spice things up by using an array of ordance or weapon groupings.
I still remember what combat was like before people started jousting... if you didn't fly an Eagle you were at a disadvantage. Jousting gives any ship, regardless of turn speed an equal chance, and give those with smaller hitboxes and faster strafe more of an advantage.

No, aside from jousting a BS, that's the easiest way to get your bomber shredded. Battleships lack the capability to chase bombers from lack of a thruster, and are unable to dodge effectively. Flying cirlces at a range and sniping with the SNAC is far more effective than flying close, although it takes a while to get used to firing snap shots with the SNAC accurately.
Remember, capital ship weapons have very fast projectile speeds, the closer you are the less likely you are to be able to dodge in time. It doesn't take much for a Battleship to kill a Bomber, either.
Jousting doesn't work in larger battles. When you see someone EKing, make sure you have your CD ready so you can stop them.
EDIT:

Indeed but there is a problem. You are so close to their guns that if they do hit you, you have like no time to dodge. If they can predict your movements, and get a couple of shots in. You would die.
