I recently found the Shrine. Yay me. Makarakov is the newest Nomad-wannabe. So, what do I do now? Loiter and speak gibberish in New York? I try to contact any Wild/Keepers that come online and congregate to them, but since both are now special invite-only, it seems pretty futile.
oh, and if you see me in-game, I preceed and succeed all of my messages with "..." and then a symbol indicating the nature of the statement;
* Is neutral. Ex- ...*Human Conflict is futile*....
? Indicates a question. Ex- ...?Why do humans conflict?...
( ) Shows what I am "thinking". Ex- ...(Humans are such unstable, fragile creatures)... / ...(Torture)...
> < Indicates my feelings. Ex- ...>Fear<... / ...>Confusion<...
Sometimes I punctuate important adjectives with < > symbols. Example being: ...*Flesh-born vessels. They are so <Fragile>*...
I look forward to interacting with people in the future!
I'm confused a bit, are you human? Or nomad? Your RP differs entirely from what we've or any other trial been doing...also, it's not the point to speak gibberish, we make sense, eventhough humans don't tend to understand, but there's always a message hidden in it, nomads don't make fun of humans, there is no point in that. I suggest you try to ask some Keeper to invite you into the group, just PM him, ooRPly of course, and you'll most probably get an invite, then check out how they RP. If everyone has different RP we won't be able to really figure out what we're saying nor will the normal humans.
Edit: Also, nomads do not have feelings, not in the way humans do anyhow.
I think that's generally the problem with Trial IDs, people don't really know how to rp a nomad in game. We have plenty of forum rp about nomads to read, but little examples of server rp, I for one have only been near a Keeper once or twice.
I'm afraid that can only be taught in game, hence why we tend to invite the trials to our groups most of the time, everyone that gets into the Keepers gets taught on how to RP our way immediately in the start, but we have lives of our own and we can't always be online to educate every trial we come across. We try our best, rest is up to you to figure out by observing keepers, not just from your trials but from other characters too.
Nomad roleplay model primarily has two RP communication methods: "injecting" thoughts and visions. Both are of telepathic nature which technically is how they communicate around.
Injecting thoughts is typically seen as "voices in the head" kind of thing, i.e. a character you communicate with hears it but not over regular communications. If it's a message passed into system chat it is a broadcast and thus heard by those who are responsive to these kind of impulses (warning: unfortunately some players around have nomadophobia, so under no condition they will roleplay back, in this case just leave them alone). If passed into local chat it becomes short range broadcast and finally in private it is direct and personal. Nomad roleplay is not about talking gibberish, and as Titan mentioned already behind every "phrase" there is a meaning, like a jigsaw puzzle the pieces are shuffled around slightly, perhaps even mixed with other puzzle sets, thus deliberately making communication to be difficult. Anything simpler would make them mundane and no different from other inhabitants of Freelancer universe. At least such way a contact with them tends to be unpredictable and you don't really know what to expect from them, after all they're alien specie that is so different from us.
Visions are somewhat similar, they are denoted by round brackets, however instead of confusing others with the puzzled phrases this kind of roleplay communication is more specific and is narrated instead like a story in which you direct someone's else in a dream-like state creating a dream for them. Could be a dream, could be a nightmare, it's ultimately your choice, but you should use it careful, it's easy to fail as a narrator, besides the person whom you're showing it should be responsive, at least in the slightest, no interest to do it to a mute. However keep in mind that this kind of roleplay often requires lengthy and numerous messages, a very miniature story which you try to show the other through the narrative text. It takes times, so try to find a place where you'd be out of danger for the time being. Nothing worse than having a lengthy roleplay and then get disrupted in the middle by someone who simply sees everything in "red is dead" way. Another thing is that visions are useful is when you want to show specific place in some system, since you can describe the surroundings and see if the other person able to recognize the place by description you give to him/her.
All in all both forms are completing each other, yet both require trial and error to accommodate to. They aren't usual and the difficulty lies in necessity to improvise along all the time, each message tends to be unique and each vision is a little story that own meaning(s), putting you into making those jigsaw puzzles for others. Which is why it is so different from other forms of roleplay.
There is no need to reply on every query that human characters may make, a lot of them tend to make no sense, others are just plain insulting. Given how different Nomads really are they have a different set of interests, a different set of values, so they don't care if someone insults them over communication channels nor they insult back. On occasion they might give a remark something about a human nature but that's it. Playing a nomad character around is staying aside of those things.
Alright- thanks for the early warning. I'll genk up with some Keepers. I didn't realize we had to PM OORP. That explains my convo with some Wilde and Keepers via PM...
And yes, I was there in New Berlin. When Durandal came in and got killed, I figured that the Wilde would win.
Yeah, I'm thus far unsure how I will RP my nomad morph. Just that he was once Wilde, but something went wrong with the blending and he'd lost communications with the mindshare. So I can give myself some liberties to be a little different then the status quo. =)
Iâll carry this flag
To the grave if I must
Because itâs flag that I love
And a flag that I trust

If you're RPing as a Keeper trial then you should follow the lore, and there it's said that without the mindshare, nomads cannot survive, they become rigid, falling into a comatose state, and basically go crazy and don't move until the link is restored.
