Connection Issues - Fix found

My friend just downloaded the latest patch, we've been playing beta 7 together for a while now. But now, when he tries to connect to the Freelancer RP server he gets a "The requested operation is taking longer than expected." and then can't connect. Now it's not a problem with his install because he can connect just fine to the USA server. I was worried that perhaps he had been banned, but I doubt he did anything to horrible and I saw nothing in the sanction area. Anyone have any advice?

Edit: Completely uninstalling, deleting all the files in /freelancer/, and then reinstalling Freelancer fixed the issue for me.

Im getting the same problem. Server shows up, shows there are people online, shows a ping, yet when i connect, i get "Server is taking longer than possible" error

Did you remember to add the new version to your firewall's safe list?

It's official, I have too few ships now...

yep tried that one out, not sure if AVG could be firewalling me off but doubtful had connection for about 2-3 hours then just went kaput...tried usa that one seemed to say no go also, something to do with 4.85 internals?

Here's something else, but this might just be me using a "special" exe. When I try running the game single player with the mod deactivated, after the intro movie, I get a "I'm sorry, but the account name and password you have provided are not valid on this server. Be sure that you typed your account name correctly and try again."

Edit: My guess is that it had something to do with the new connection DLL.

I deactivated my firewall along time ago. Im using a Discovery Friendly firewall, so that couldnt be the problem.. unless some weird update screwed me over

The server is down because it is under a denial of service attack. This attack is saturating the internet link to the server and causing connection problems for almost everybody. We'll let you know when this is sorted out but realistically this may take several days to fix.

He said it's back up, the server has a latency of 160 from texas and has 100 players on right now.
