I think capital ships are getting shorted on cargo capacity.

Yes, they're not meant to be transports.

Yes, they need extra room on board for their advanced weapon systems and crew amenities.

But still, most battleships are the size of several trains put together. Yet they have less than 1/4 the cargo space. I would think they'd have MORE cargo space.

Discuss!

I'd say ... no. That way we would see a load of people using battleships to trade. Fusing powertraders with lolcaps seems like an awfull awfull idea. Why do they need that cargo space anyways...

What use, gameplay wise, is the extra cargo?

In theory yes they would have to have a lot more room than transports as they would have to hold all their weapon systems, crew ect ect

Its the way it is for balance purposes, otherwise you would have people running around trading in battleships. Something i doubt you would want to see, and i most certainly do not.

You would indeed have "battle traders". Even with the lower cargo space have seen many do it on other servers and even here a couple of times.

Most space on a ship takes up the armor, ammo, tech, crew and only some is left for something else. Ship designers try to make them as compact as possible afterall.

Want a cap with cargo get a junker salvager.

Also, you have to imagine a battleship having multiple decks, which don't allow storage of cargo, at least not in an effective way. You also have to keep in mind that the fighters need room as well. You can argue that fighters don't take a lot of space, but room is also needed to maintain these ships, which is harder and slower when there's not enough room. When all these factors are taken into account, you still need to think about a double hull, which also takes up lots of space. Then, only then, you can actually use the ramining space to store food, water, ammo, oxygen,...

Id and Reputation restrictions would keep people from using any routes that would make it worth it.

Well there's a few reasons I can think of.

One, in Disco guns and ammo take up cargo space. So if a battleship were involved in a large battle with many npcs it could suck up all the loot that wouldn't fit on the supporting fighters.

Two, it might make for roleplay opportunities for battleships, if you could take a large load of supplies to a base that's been cut off or is remote, or whatever.

@One: Do they? I didn't notice. Neither ammo nor guns take cargo space, excepting capital ship and transport ship weaponry. I don't know about you, but I don't tend to see heaps of those lying around.

@Two: You could try escorting a transport vessel. Disco Battleship doesn't look like a ship for that task.
