I realize this forum is for 4.85, but I don't know where to post my question.
My internet connection is sporadic, so in between 4.85 online disco, I started playing 4.84 campaign. Unfortunately, Mactan Base is missing- it shows up on the map, and the waypoint is there, but the base is gone. This makes docking, and finishing the mission, impossible.
A way a lone a last a loved a long the riverrun, past Eve and Adam's, from swerve of shore to bend of bay,
brings us by a commodius vicus of recirculation back to Howth Castle and Environs.
If you only want to play the campaign, the basic and unmodded vanilla Freelancer is best for.
Oh and 4.85 doesn't contain the sp campaign anylonger, because of huge changes inflicting the campaign locations.
I've already beaten vanilla campaign- it was fun, but I want to try campaign with discovery (4.84, as the title says).
Anyway, I'll try re-installing, see if that helps. Thanks for letting me know it's not a permanent problem.
As for the problem itself, yeah- the entire base is missing. Just empty space, but the base still appears on the dock list, I'm able to select it, and can hit F3 to try to dock. The AI says I'm cleared to dock at dock 1 or whatever, but I just sort of loop in space instead of docking. Same thing happens to NPC's. That's actually happened with another base since I last posted, which makes me pretty sure it's a bad install.
Thanks for the advice and support, I'll let you know if the re-install works. I really hope my disk isn't corrupted.
Update:
YAY! It lives! Re-install worked. Thanks, everyone. I'm back to enjoying Freelancer- with bases.
However, I'm still curious as to what caused this wonkiness. I'm running Vista, and was switching between 4.84(for SP) and 4.85(multi). Could that cause problems?
It sounds like an issue with the system ini file.
Basically you can add as many stations as you want to a system through that file. Won't be able to really do much with them with that file alone but possible.
Same goes for deleting them too.
I once deleted the entirety of New York.
I could fly straight into the centre of where the various bases should have been. Anyone watching me on a server would have seen me fly through stations.
Doesn't work with planets though, death zones remain.
Anyway, ill advised to try it on the server.
