My Trader's a Freelancer and I've no real desire to move up to the "higher" tiers of trading - and I've had more than a few pleasurable RP experiences (and some friendly advice as I'm still new - from pirates no less!) on him.
That being said though I've seen both of these ships in game and they're both rather sexy looking - I'm curious as to the community thoughts on them, especially versus each other. Any help would be appreciated!
(I've a little bit to go before I can afford either but I'm torn!)
BWT is more independent, but I believe the Firefly is Bretonian. BWT is probably ideal for a Freelancer, as it means you're less likely to be restricted from such places as Kusari.
Combat-wise though, I think the Firefly is more compact? That would probably make it better in this aspect.
Generic answer: Go with whatever suits your roleplay best
Biased answer: Firefly ftw. I fly that ship and love it.
From a statistical point of view, the BW transport has more guns and cargo, while I believe it has a rather large model. The Firefly has less guns, of which only four fire forwards, smaller cargo, more armour and bots/bats and I think it has a smaller model. There's not a lot different between them at all.
Both ships are independent, however bretonian corporations can use the Firefly. That's the difference in that aspect.
The BWT is better at defending itself, as it has more turrets in the important fire arcs (behind and to the sides). Both have similar armour so they are similar in that aspect. The Firefly has a CD slot, but it only fires forward so its not useful when evading targets in most situations.
The Firefly is probably better at evading enemy fire, especially bombers and their supernovas, due to its distinct cross shape ( + ).
I have both - I would suggest getting the one which you think looks better, as they are very similar otherwise.
' Wrote:I'm leaning towards the BWT. When I saw one I instantly fell in love. But the Firefly - I saw one too - looks really good too.
(From an RP perspective it's all about looks which is why this is even harder, heh.)
Thanks for the replies!
I find trying out ships in SP a good way to go. Set the mod starting cash for SP to max and you can try any of the ships with change to spare. Saves wasting cash on something you later decide you don't like with hard earned Disco credits.
I fly the BWT now where before the rule changes it was an Adv Train. The BWT is a dream in asteroid fields and other tight places. I have been very happy in it generally speaking. I have tried the Firefly briefly but preferred the BWT for looks.

Ah yes I'd forgotten about that! I've settled on the BWT - the FF handles better but the BWT just looks so much cooler, almost like a warship in and of itself.
Now to keep saving up for it!
(Also, sidenote question: I see offers of people selling their traderoutes, how often does that actually happen? I'm somewhat happy with mine but I know it's probably horrid with what other people have.)
Firefly has 4 forward / 4 backward turrets so its basicly not effective in combat. But then, pay 2 millions and avoid combat at all.
Firefly was also easy to fly and dock with lanes from what I remember.
Selling traderoutes is ok if you are doing it in RP (like those guys selling info in the bar). Other than that. Its simply moving to some bases around and mapping. Than you can map your own routes fast. I remember creating a route several months ago that worked well for many of my friends and made good sums within RP borders.
ok, I fly the firefly through Kusari all the time and no Kusari lawful has ever stopped me. My main point: the BWT can't dodge npc cruise disruptors thus makeing the Firefly able to keep going instead of haveing to waste time thrusting from npc's. I love the firefly but now that I have over a billion credits I feel that it's to small and am going to get the Liberty Super Transport. But yeah the firefly by all means.
