Okay, according to Dusty Lens Quick Guide To Mining, various bonuses are applied to certain characters according to their IFF, ID, ship, and weapons loadout.
*snip*
1) The Mining Ship provides an 80% yield bonus.
1.5) The ALG mover/CSV/Collector yield 20%.
2) The Mining Laser yields an additional 20%
3) The proper ID and TAG provide 15% each.
I was in Omicron Delta just killing time in my BH Battlecruiser and decided to shoot some rocks while waiting for some Nomad npc's to happen along. In 10 minutes I managed to fill my hold with 660 Iridium rocks. Out of curiousity, I then got my Zoner miner, who happens to be docked at the Freeport there. Returning to the same spot, in 10 minutes, I managed to fill my hold with approximately 800 rocks. I have a Zoner IFF, with a Miner's ID, a mining ship, and all mining lasers, so the bonus should be 115%, netting approximately 1400 minerals mined. It seems I came up about 600 short.
I was shooting rocks in my BH Battlecruiser with BH cruiser turrets and with my setup, I should receive no bonus to mining whatsoever, yet I mined just about 140 rocks less then my mining ship in the same amount of time.
Do the mining bonuses (ship and weapons loadout and miner's ID) only apply to certain fields? It would be a hell of a lot safer to mine in a battlecruiser then a mining ship with no defense weapons to speak of.
The field in Omicron Delta is the only one I've tried this on.
You ask me why Im weary, why I cant speak to you.

The Miner ID provides bonuses for scrap metal and alien organisms according to the guide. Iridium isn't included, so you get no ID bonus for yield. That still doesn't make up 600 units - perhaps you need all the factors yeah. Try mining individual rocks and recording the yields on both battlecruiser and miner. Compare the averages of the yields and see if they relate to the mining bonuses.
The mining bonuses are stackable. If you have the ship, but not the IFF,ID, or guns you would only get an 80% bonus. Or so says the Mining Guide.

I will do that and see.

Okay, just did another test here. Busting a ton of rocks in the same place (the Palau Ice Field in O-Delta), the most drop I got out of one rock in my BH Battlecruiser was 6. I tried again with my mining ship and the most drop I got was the exact same, 6. And this was tested on a ton of rocks, with me scanning the drop on each one.

There is no mining bonus for Iridium atm, so you'll get as much mining them in a Whale with a GRN tag and Xeno ID as you will a mining ship.
Ahh, I didn't know that, I thought the mining ship bonus applied to all minable commodities, not just the ones listed for various factions.

Yes this is sort of true, but:
ship and no guns = no bonus
ID and wrong IFF = no bonus
You get a bonus if you mine the right commodity with the ship and guns.
You get a cumulative bonus if you mine the right commodity with the right ID and IFF.

In my IMG character I have the same problem. I was in omega-49 mining niobium and I have a mining ship, IMG tag and ID, and was shooting the rocks with the mining laser. The most I ever got was 20 out of one rock. Did they decrease the yield?
