To anybody thinks that it's allowed to pirate using a Dreadnought! Please read the posts made by Wolf in Manhattan Bar
I'm sorry to have the need to post it again but having 3 players flaming at me and complainig and saying that I'm a lier ON THE GAME CHAT WHILE I'M FIGHTING NOMADS it's really annoying!! And having these people saying things like I've read the rules and all the forums, nothing is said about pirating in capships can be even more annoying!

Lorry, you should have told them to read their own ID infocards, it's there that it's written that they can't pirate in a capital ship.
If the stars should appear one night in a thousand years, how would men believe and adore and preserve for many generations the remembrance of the city of God? - from 'Nightfall' by I. Asimov The Outcasts consider Siniestre Nube a sacred place for several reasons. Early explorers discovered a jumphole within the depths of the cloud that leads to a strange world of ringed stars and strange craft. All ships in the burrial ground are placed facing that hole to honor the Alien Spirits. - An Outcast rumor
Night, don't you know that most people have FL IDs? I'm pretty sure it says nothing about pirating on the infocard.
I am a long-absent Supreme Commander, Executive Commander, Grand Admiral, Fleet Admiral, and Captain in the mighty Hellfire Legion. I have returned, and am on an urgent mission from Drake Thastus to return the Legion to its former glory, and to claim the galaxy for its own. Only then will I be able to rest.
RP Story (Still deciding whether or not to finish)
@Dab I'll tell you the name on PM... but what was really more annoying is that he was arguing like "you're making fun of me... everybody does it". I mean... I've been nice, I've given him an info he didn't know, helping him to avoid the risk of being fined by admins... people don't really understand when you try to help them.
@NIGHT You're right. I should had thougt it. Thank for the suggestion: next time I'll do it
@Best Good point with reagard to freelancer ID

Heck, now he can't even claim he didn't know, even though that wouldn't have saved him. Just goes to prove he was fully willing to break the rules and do it.
So you can't Pirate with a Dred. Are their any other hidden rules, waiting to be broken? You get the best play if the players know EXACTLY where the lines are... Certainly having all the rules in one spot would make that more likely... I can appreciate any MOD is a work in progress, and role play is still a half backed twist on the game. But players spend a lot of time working on new ways of keeping it interesting. So when your faced with a surprise road block that puts you in the wrong. Its not surprising people get hot fast... like facing a pirating Dred...
There is no excuse for shooting your mouth off... But fuzzy lines promote discord. It's a game... Which should mean we are all here to have fun. Adding rules, which must be enforced by the Admins points to a problem of balance. I'd suggest that Freelancer ID's don't fly Dreds, and Pirate ID on a Dred should be big target for everyone.
The big ships have been a headache from the beginning... But it is a logical evolution for may players to work towards bigger and bigger ships. The problem is balance... The magic of all great games is the underling balance between intrigue and difficulty. Freelancer (like many games) scales the difficulty with the players level. However in a multiplayer environment that is not the case.
The other problem with balance is that we have very limited control of the variables. Adding stuff doesn't change the inherent balance the original game had carefully been design with. The original game could smell fear and greed. It reached out to you when you when least wanted it too but at the same time was fair if you proved you had the metal to stick to your guns.
The first most important thing about this game is the silky smooth flight engine and the second is the total lack of direction. You felt free to do what you wanted and just had to go do it. I won't say that all the additions are a waste of time, but really they are a distraction form the fact that the game has a very tight range of refinement that is always distorted by the best intentions of the MODing community. For example this Mod increased the cruise speed to 350. For the player that has been around; getting around that bit quicker is refreshing. But at the same time the spawning of NPC and the way their AI works is distorted and we have lost something.
Doubling the size of the environment, gave us new place to check out, and places to hide all the cool new parts... but it also spread the players out. Sure if you want the same old space you can play the stock game. But maybe a clever MODDER could make better use of the original space...or rather finish the game in a manner the originators could not..
I have played a few MODs and this one is at least one of the best. I hope to see a MOD with a focus on refinement as opposed to additions. The engine is geared for the original speed/firepower/shielding. So working with those is the key to balance. Everything is relative, so the game is still the same, just on a scale which fits the engine. Sticking to these stock variables still leaves room for a cleaver MODDERs to reshape the game and allow them to focus on role play.
The point is the game has balance you don't have to find it; or enforce it. You just have to finish it.
Don't get me wrong. This is yet another great extension of our Freelancer experience, and I again thank all those whom made it possible. These of course are just my views from having spent countless enjoyable hours killing things in space, jaw jacking on forums like this, and heckling anyone who would listen.
This issue has been thrashed to death in the past.... the reason capships are probihited from pirating is exactly a balance issue.... capships can pwn a transport in no time.
It makes things "too easy" for the capship pilot, if you will.
Of course the counter argument includes things like, "nothing but whining from transport owners" and "why don't they hire wingmen".
The irony is any BS owner will need to run their own transport to raise the cash to buy one, and do the few money-runs repeatedly. The alternative is that you'll have grey hair before you can buy a BS.
Result: The rule we have now. I agree the rules probably need to be stipulated in one place.... it is plainly spelt on the infocard, but unfortunately no many people read down that far.
Nothing to really add to your other points, which are retorical anyway I guess. See you out there ----->
@onca: Thank you for your further explanation :). I hope now nobody will claim anymore that pirating in CapS is allowed
@Preon: I could argee on one point: rules should all be stated in the same place but you must be aware that andmins are not payed; they do it for free and cannot be everywhere all the times. They already do a great job. And a bit of cooperation from players would be a great contribution to run things in a smoother way. Moreover... the point about pirating has already been raised at least 3 times in the last two weeks; anybody that has been in the forum in the last two weeks has had the chace to learn the rules about it.
Anyway, if you think that the rules are not right you are free to start a new discussion topic in the forum and ask for a rule change or an open discussion about it. But... while the rules will be in force you must follow them or being fined for having been a rule-breaker; that's all. If you don't like it... there are servers in the net that follow different rules, choose the one that best fit your tastes about rules.

Pirating should be allowed *only* with the Pirate ID. I am going to enforce this to keep piracy under control. There won't be an option to pirate with Freelancer ID or other neutral IDs.
That is, if you pirate, you have to clearly state your roleplaying status. Pirating without appropriate ID = server rule violation.
On all pirate IDs, it's clearly stated that piracy in capital ships is prohibited.
