I believe he's speaking of the health bar on the wreck, not taking damage.
Yesterday I had two base destroy missions where the base would not take any damage,
several other similar occurrences have also been noticed by various members.
The wrecks not responding to gunfire is intentional to improve 'fairness' of codename looting. It's not a perfect system but it will help a little bit and will be improved over the next few months.
@kindred: I'll take a look at the base mission thing. That might or might not be related.

That happend to me trying to kill a junker NPC on a level 1 mission . I could blast his shields but couldnt much hull damage (didnt pass the 80% hull strenght). Dont know if its something related but i already killed NPC's on level 2 and 3 missions with the same ship and weapons.

I had the same thing just today. After a while the bases health goes from full to zero instantly though, you just gotta keep at it.
My switchblade was also taking 'phantom damage' while I was killing the bases. Meaning, I was seemingly hit by nothing, no projectile, no splash against my shield or hull, yet their integritys kept dropping if I stood still. Did the mission bases get given turrets that are invisible?
