As far as the RP goes, yes, of course. I love my big ship, it opens up all kinds of new avenues for RP. Instead of being one person you can be an entire community all to yourself, it's a great method for expression.
As far as PvP goes, no, not really, not since 4.83. Back in those days you could actually hit the fighters if you worked at it and it was perfectly acceptable to roll around looking for other Battleships to joust, and for a while at least viable to prearrange fights. Now we've basically been relegated to doing nothing that's not in support of smaller ships - the fighter jockeys get all the glory whilst we sit in the background sniping at Gunboats and Cruisers and maybe, just maybe, getting to nail another Battleship.

It has been a very long while since I've piloted a cruiser and a little while since I had a GB. I had a decent amount of fun in both types RP-wise and in PvP. Nothing matches flying a fighter for pure thrill value though. Whenever I finish up saving for a battleship (at this rate about 1 year by that time the price will likely go up another billion,:P) I am sure I will enjoy RPing with that greatly.
I enjoy my destroyer. Been in five fights in it in all this time, and I can remember each one clearly.
-getting pumelled by a Harvester AI cruiser (on maiden voyage - caught me unawares I can tell you)
-thrashing a GB who unwiesly wouldnt roleplay (where I got to enjoy getting rammed as a tactic by a nasty enemy)
-thrashing a GB who unwiesly wouldnt roleplay (funny how many people assume you are out to kill them and then act in a way that guarantees it)
-sniping a GB from 2.5 with a chain fired twin pulse, salvo from the regular turrets and a mortar round (you have to experience this!)
-taking down a corsair mini fleet with a few others (a really close one - aim and distance are a destroyers friend)
The rp potential is superb and I like the different learning curve. For all the time on the ship, it has seen very little action, but I realy feel like the ship has a personality and distinctive character, rather than the individual piloting it. I'm very careful not to get caught alone. I have yet to get hit by a bomber.
Seriously though, having a big ship helps you RP in that people cant really just ignore and engage. I for one seem to be often the only corsair cap in gamma, and therefore have to deal with all the traders/n00bs/enemies that come our way. That is often fun, but not in a PvP way...
