Vista is known, to work badly.
A lot of stuff isn't fixed or even done, yet.
There will be thousands of upgrades needed to make it work like XP (even this needed a lot of fixing)
Vista wasn't made to support the past programs or to make you feel more comfortable.
It is made to be plattform for a lot of programs, going to be released by MS and to bring more cash to them.
Don't do the mistake and buy a new comp with Vista pre-installed, yet. Wait and laugh about those who did. ;)

Format PC and install XP pro.
Vista sucks. Its too heavy for most computers. It's just an eyecandy OS, not a good OS.
Maybe in a few years, when Vista drivers are mature enough, bugs are patched and there are plenty of DX10 and OpenGL3 games, vista might be worthy. but that time is not now.
It wil be better in in te future, becouse same happened with XP wen it came out
Games will be Dx10 and Dx9 for a time. Once the market is flooded with DX10 cards, they will begin making all DX10 games.
The idea of making it run on Vista only is to force people to buy the Vista Operating System.
Vista is too resource-hungry. It needs a powerful system to run. And for me, that does not respects the definition of Operating System, which has to be light, fast and useful. Not heavy, slow and eyecandy.
I think that Vista wasn't made as an OS for all, but a gaming platform.

My brother is a part of a MSDN group that does work with C# (C-Sharp).
He said that the single biggest problem with Vista is that it has lackluster support from hardware vendors. Why? Simple... the code for Vista is CONVULTED and barely works across the spectrum. Meaning that if one vendor writes code for their hardware and ships it to work on vista, it won't work on all of the four versions. It'll work on only one, forcing them to write code for each of the versions available.
MS *CANNOT* force the public to switch. Doing so will put them back into court with the US Department of Justice, and after the last lawsuit (MS Lost, with MAJOR sanctions) they are probably going to be forced to recall VISTA.

I really think that it would be better for everyone if MS will quit the tradition of 'revolutionary systems'. No one needs anything revolutionary. People just wish the system to WORK. Work with all their games, applications, drivers, hardware, whatever. We are not buying PCs to stare at 3d interface or MSN Live, or to chat with Xbox Live! subscribers.
There was a review on Gamespot.com, comparing game performance on Vista and XP (2006 games, like Oblivion and Company of Heroes, and some others). XP wins everywhere, and most notably on 512-1024 Mb memory. Here it is: http://www.gamespot.com/features/6164940/index.html
Anyway, we've got too far from the topic... Probably should start general Vista discussion somewhere, I believe this issue is important for all of us, since we are all PC gamers here.
@ Korrd: They are making DX 10 patches for games such as Company of Heros and possibly others aswell, so those with a GTX and GTS arent gonna miss out too much:P.
@wolf: Of course MS can force people to switch to vista. Just plonk it on all the computers that are for sale and the people who dont know how to make a PC or cant be bothered too will get Vista. As far as i know, thats a legal process.
@Igiss: Yeah, Vista hammers the memory so you need 2 gig of memory to run games properly on vista. As far as i know though, the games work at the same level of performance on an XP machine with 2 gig memory and a Vista machine with 2 gig memory.
Just in case your all wondering where i get my information, i buy a magazine which has its own website here Custom PC. You have to register if you want to view more than the front page but most of you out there dont really care about computers;).

IT SUCKS. Period. The only version I'd ever consider is the professional version they claim is business-orientated.
I also beta tested Vista, and yes it sucked. Programs wouldnt run, it randomly crashed, wouldnt even start up at times. BUT that was the beta version. The Business version (which I have) is stable, it doesnt mysteriously crash, it works just fine. As far as I can tell it doesnt even use more ram or CPU power than XP did.

Well, duh, of course its to force people to buy Vista.
And whats wrong with that, if I may ask?
As a company its a bloody smart move. Id do the same thing if I ran Microsoft.
Oh, and Id say the definition (and role for that matter) of an OS is to simply bridge the gap between hardware and applications. Thats what its supposed to do. Whether or not its fast, heavy, yadda yadda is another matter.

As one of my professors said at uni, and which I think is true, is that if people dont keep evolving, trying new stuff, being revolutionary, then nothing new will ever get made, then well be stuck with what we have and never get anywhere else.
Just look at XP, Microsofts decision to be revolutionary by only using the NT core in their OS did remove support of a lot of old hardware and software, but it also made the system that much more stable. Yes, there were a loss, but personally I think it was for the best.
