In other news, 22 people were arrested by the Rheinland navy today after a cargo ship got wrecked on the Hamburg system. According to the Rheinland police, the ship (which was trying to break the trade embargo) tried to escape by jumping back and forth through this gate. The reasons for the accident are not yet clear, as it is supposed that jumpgates do have safety measures to avoid such tricks.
Ageira representative Carl Emmerson made some comments regarding this incident:
- We believe that the crew of the ship hacked into the jumpgate computer and overrode certain safety protocols that were meant to avoid such things from happening, causing a malfunction of some sort which damaged the ship in question. Our team of engineers is investigating the matter in order to determine how such thing was accomplished.
I have to say that jumpgates, unlike jumpholes, are perfectly secure if not tampered with. There are no reasons to believe this could happen during normal operation.
