Helping out the little guy

I've had an idea kicking around in my head for a while now, as an alternative to buying a Rhino and mining your first millions and I'd like some feedback before I go and make relevant RP posts about it.

Basically, it works like this. My Liberty based trader will sponsor new pilots, get them setup in a basic ship (Probably a Hawk<strike>, with the option of a Barracuda if the BHG agrees to let me have some</strike>) then hire them as escort pilots.

I'd then get them to accompany me on my usual routes to Brettonia and Kusari, paying them as we go. They'd come out of it wth the 2 mil or so so required to set up a basic mk 2 HF or a 500+ cargo freighter, along with a chance to ask whatever questions they had.

They'd have to earn their pay, dealing with whatever NPC pirates happened along although obviously I wouldn't put a Hawk up against a PC pirate (unless it was Sindroms in his Bloodhound:P)

I'd obviously get to cut down on the monotony that is trading whilst hopefully helping new players avoid some of the common early mistakes as well as leaving them better placed for their ongoing time in Disco,

Very nice idea, one of the real "putaways" of disco is the massive amount of people saying.

"GO MINE YOUR OWN MONEE LEEV ME ALOEN"

just strikes a sense of bad community.

You should also use starblazers and such.

Sounds like a great idea. Personally one of my friends in RL set me up with a Mammtoh to get me into the game, so I don't have an idea about how new players feel, but your idea makes sense. Although, I don't know how you expect hawks to protect you from gunboats...

@Hundra: I'd considered the 'blazer too. Personally I prefer the Hawk but it's certainly an option.

@cobraSting: I don't meet a whole lot of NPC gunboats on my routes:)

Good idea... I like hiring new guys as escorts if I'm ever in penny on my trader. I also used to have a few low level armour upgrades and stuff, plus basic civvy weapons on my arms dealer to give to people who roleplayed with my arms dealer as well, but I ran out some time ago and haven't bothered restocking with them yet. Maybe I should make a fairly anonymous rhino in penny and help a few people get off the ground in terms of some basic RP and cash...

As I said, I wouldn't expect them to take on player pirates. Those would get paid, as usual.

I really like the idea and i'm sure a lot of newbies will be greatful that someone actually cares for them. It is a great possibility to set up a fighter with something different than mining or trading.
As i said earlier on Skype, i'd be happy do donate you for this cause as soon as i have recovered from the rebuilding of my trader (my only source of income at the moment).

I'm fairly annoyed with people who refuse to help people who ask questions, "Go Discover" is a term I hate, unless being used as a joke.
