Hi, I wasn't certain where to ask this but i'm looking for a new game/server since the one I was at: Ioncross Freelancer is no longer operating. The Ioncross mod was made by one of the origional developers who wasn't happy with how it turned out. He made a program that kicked the player from the game when he died so that his ship with everything that was on it was destroyed and they recieved 50% of the value back.
I don't mind what the penalty is as long as it makes one care about avoiding it as I can't seem to get into a game that doesn't have this as I find the action dull. Can anyone suggest a mod or game similar to freelancer that has a severe death penalty (i've tried eve and I can cope with everything except ship control which is just wrong). Thanks for any help.
a game where robbing another player blind is celebrated and the devs will NEVER intervene unless rules have been broek (which there are very few of). I love it:D

Slow and Boring? You obviously didn't play for long. When playing eve I have to think and move far quicker than I do when I'm playing something like CSS or unreal tournament. If you got in to it properly go do low sec piracy, one day your on top of the world after having soloed 5 other ships and the next your ratting because you didn't notice the numbers in local jump and lost your expensive t2 cruiser. (That just happened to me sadly:()
But to be honest if you are looking for a harsh game you wont find meaner than eve.
Eve has a decent death system so I decided to give it a go. I played it for over a year and found the combats are slow and boring because the interface is not skill based but 'chart' based, i.e. the skill is in configuring your ships loadout in dock rather than flying the ship in combat which requires simple activation of weapons and modules rather than frantic manual control. I.e. moving, manually firing weapons/missiles/mines trying to shake off persuers and dodge fire from other ships. I thought that once I had a Chimera and got involved in larger battles and POS sieges things would pick up. Sadly I never felt the thrills I found in other space sims and I put this down to the method of ship control. Even with a harsh death penalty my eve experience doesn't compare to controlling a ship first person.
I did ask in the origional post for any space sim with a difficult death penalty other than eve because i've tried it and found it lacking already but I am happy your enjoying it and perhaps you'd like to buy my character off me with 25m sp (charon, rokh, chimera..)?
I'd like to find a game similar to freelancer:
With shield damage system like tie fighter,
Landable planets and moons (manually landable like frontier elite),
Player based economy/trade/mining etc
Highly customisable ships on inside and outside,
First person combat with fully controllable ship (perhaps larger ships with extra crew),
And a harsh penalty for dying (harsh enough to make combat tense).
I'd be delighted if I just found one with the last two points though. I know some people just want to relax and kill easy things without any risk after work but thats not me.

Unless the players are friends of the devs and they're not worried about getting caught again.
My favorite was some mod banning Istvaan Shotsogatsuu (sp?) for breaking rules everyone else is supposed to follow. The mod was sacked and Istvaan was reinstated. This was a time when the Community Manager had said in no uncertain terms that once someone was forum banned, they were never, ever coming back.
Also, look at the old BoB/devs secret agreement that after it being exposed, resulted in the devs bringing in Community Representatives to show the playerbase that they were being honest as a last-resort damage control method.
I liked EVE. But I hate POS warfare and the asshattery it brings. I miss the old original EVE where battleships were the biggest ships in the game.
For on-topic stuff: the death penalty here is kept relatively light just to keep the peace around here. It's player-run and the original purpose is for us all to have fun making a universe of our own, rather than raw competition.
Yea I thought so reading the forums. I was hoping someone knew of a server/mod/game that has a bit more tension that I could get into. It looks like http://www.infinity-universe.com may be my only hope when it comes out.

Well you will be waiting a while on that, that has been under development for 5+ years and is being done by a single guy I believe. Way too overambitious for a single dev.
