Just a quick question regarding juggling different mods.
Say I want to switch between Discovery and Freeworlds, for example. Is it possible to install Freelancer to a separate location in order to switch between the two mods? If so, how?

You have to use the mod manager for that, its lets you switch between mods.
Just be sure the other mod is turned off when you want to play discovery, the server isn't took keen on anything that isn't discovery.
The mod manager can be found here if you didn't have it already. Click here
Yes, I suppose that would work, but it's not really what I was wondering.
Even with FLMM, one would still have to go through and toggle the mods on and off every time they want to switch servers.
I was thinking that perhaps it would be simpler to install Fl a second time to a second location, so that I could choose one or the other "on the fly," using a pair of desktop shortcuts.
my "copy" of freelancer is in a separate directory than the install directory.
there have been several times that i have had to "re-install" freelancer and i just copy the directory i have backed up into the install directory.
do this:
make a new directory, something like c:\freelancer
then once make sure you have your MOD installed, say you have freeworlds installed. then copy EVERYTHING you have in c:\program files\microsoft games\freelancer folder to c:\freelancer
then make a shortcut on your desktop and rename it
THEN go back to the mod manager, un-install freeworlds mod, which will only point to the install directory, uninstall freeworlds, and install discovery.
then make a shortcut to that on your desktop.
does this help you?
basically, copy the entire contents of the modded freelancer to a different directory and use that. it will be like having 2 versions of freelancer on your computer. then install the other mod on the original freelancer.
it works, or at least it does for me.
