Quote:With your factions long inactivity, you're bound to get a lot of folks who have no clue who or what you are and only see your IFF and thus might not bother about checking your ID.
I think that is valid.
I recall the first time in 2007 when Blunt pirated me with his QCP.
It was ... confusing. There will be more confused people now as QCP activity increases.
For my part, when I play as QCP and people are confused, one PM usually suffices.
//Look, we are Bretonian Privateers, licenced to pirate in Kusari by the Bretonian Government. We really are allowed to rob you. Read my ID.
If they fail to understand that, that is their problem.
They are usually instructed to look a little closer in character and in RP.
That should be the first thing you do, check the ID, I know I do it by default on every trader that comes through the lanes.
We're also clear with the messages we are using, what is going on. That added to the Guard IFF that should register as red to most people out there is a warning.
It really isn't that difficult to hit the scan button and check while you are RP-ing out the opening scene.
It is a matter of who's responsibility is it? Courtesy is fine, but if we start educating everyone via PM we're going to have a lot of running traders using that PM time in an effort to get away.
You are confused, hit the scan button and check first. Nice and simple, and we ALWAYS alot time for it... of course you may loose your shields, but that's normal for this type of encounter.

And while all this commences, the lay-offs at Lanzerate in Omega 49 begin. Where is the only place we can get plutonium? Okinawa from the GMG, cost effectively anyway. No plutonium means no jobs. But, why would the privateers care right?
BTW, it's the only thing I buy out there.

Yeah, it comes down to the disco scanner / adv cargo scanner arguement
Sure, disco may give you SLIGHTLY better range for stuff in nebulas, but it's ALWAYS better to see their ID (and kit) at max range.
Yes, but you can also go through the Sigmas and haul your plutonium that way too.
We will, in the coming days, be re-discussing Zone of Activity (Not to be confused with Zone of Influence) on where the Privateers can, should, and do go for their interdiction duties as well as where they can, should, and do dock.
Also, for those of you cranky about being interdicted by us, let me remind you that Kusari is very clearly winning this war. Upper Leeds is part of Kusari as well as the lower Taus. Privateers' job has become more important of late to interdict as much war material from reaching the front lines as possible. This means that yes, indirectly, the traders that are "just passing through" are going to get hit just as hard as that Kishiro/Samura tagged trader.
@Mudd. Invalid. The trader/miner/whatever can easily hit "o" and check our ID while we're making our way within 50m of their ship, RPing the whole way. While not all of us are the "Say there lad, fine day for a jaunt in space eh? Seems your wallet is a little heavy. The Queens Most Diligent Interdiction Wing (in Exile) require a donation" type of privateer, we ALL, every one of us, give more than sufficient time for you to scan our ID while we're flying around you.
@Akura. You're G D right we're going off of IFF. You go off of our IFF don't you? Why shouldn't we go off of yours? That's what an IFF is. "Identification Friend / Foe". Do you think that we would go around the middle of Kusari spouting off that we're part of the BAF Guard? H to the No we wouldn't! I personally would be spouting a Kishiro tag bought illicitly from a ne'er-do-well and put on my ship.
@Cargo-piracy. Only other Privateer Shire that I know of was Unseelie's Bowex Privateer Shire. But I'm fairly positive she hasn't flown that in months and months, if it's even around. roly at the moment is the only cargo-pirate we have.
We also, only have two gunboats, the T'zaht and the Absolution (?Aiden is that yours?), the rest of us fly Challengers, Templars, Rocs and Eagles. Perhaps you just seem to run into the same two gunboats constantly. It wouldn't surprise me, as Katz is very active on his, and traders tend to be incredibly uncreative in avoiding pirates along the same route.
I agree with Stoat in the other thread. It's nice to be back. Dieter does have a point though, perhaps, and I'd suggest that all Privateers make a setmsg that can be PM'd to a target, ooc, telling them a paraphrase of what Dieter said. "//Hey, we're Bretonian Privateers, licensed by the Queen of Bretonia to interdict trade in Kusari. It's in our ID." would work just fine with a /t9
When I privateered, the second time, as Bowex (not the first time in group with the QCP) I always went to the trouble to explain to whom I was pirating, in RP, that I was doing this as a service, to make sure they were aware that Kusari was not safe, and that Bretonia was a much nicer place.
Same thing, but helps avoid going ooc.
I'd like to add that using the Tradelanes and Gates actually does, in deep rp, drop credits into Samura's pockets, hence, even passing through, does benefit Kusari.
People arguing that this hurts other regions need to open up to the fact that the jingo-nationalists of Bretonia don't care, at all, about anyone but home and hearth. Lanzerotte is not such, nor is Kusari, Rhineland, or Liberty.
Nice to see QCP activity up, but I am somewhat said that the previous contents of this threaded were dumped in the trash, because I would have just copy pasted things that I wrote to the faction before.
My question today is about how you treat NPC's and bases, although it's not much of a question, because the only answer that really fits is that you are ignoring the fact that they exist in RP. To get to the place QCP seems to like to go in Kusari, you have to pass right next to Kusari bases, and of course NPC's, who would try to stop you and radio to their respective forces. So, if you would, how do the QCP go about getting themselves to Honshu or Shikoku? Or New Tokyo for that matter? What path do you take in RP?
New Tokyo connects by gate to Shikoku, and by both unobstructed hole, and gate, to Honshu. There are no bases by either of those gates. If gates are not allowed, how did Kusari get into Leeds in the first place?

How do the Blood Dragons and GC get to Shikoku? There are jumpholes the naval forces and police forces don't know about. We could also ask, how do the Nomads get anywhere beyond Delta and Minor since they would be seen and radio'd about and apparently ganked before getting out.. It's because one group doesn't know everything. KNF/KSP doesn't know the location of every jumphole. KNF/KSP also has to deal with the BD and GC.
They can't just fly around with no consequences. BD and GC shoot KNF/KSP when they go where they aren't supposed to, such as the nebula in Kyushu, which QCP can use to get to Hokkaido. Knowing where someone is for a few minutes is one thing. Getting enough forces into the area to stop and kill them before they run off away from the KNF's/KSP's eyes is another. Not to mention, they could easily kill the people who see them as well, then take off before their backup arrives.
