That was a great thread Seth, not sure why u wanted it locked but anyhoo... :P
I was very inspired by it! heh heh. I'll continue some thoughts here.
1) I understand that Freelancer is about workin your ass off for what u want... but how many times?
Isn't there a point where we start rewarding players by handing out a short cut here and there?
$$$ + Tags = Time.
I realize that having to say 'no' to people sucks, but the cream shall rise! Every 'yes' inspires 10 more! Imagine the great ideas we might see...
Thought:
All corruption and abuse is governable and preventable by accountability, so please don't use this as a foundation for refusing the ideas.
2) Where is the danger in making big rewards available for stellar faction management or actually aiding struggling factions financially?
Someone might get jealous and offended? My goodness, the selfish determine the rewards system?
3) Why not empower Indies and factions with recruiting power? If there is a justified RP request, a great track record and a good role out plan, why not?
I do like the parts of this idea that would enable some players to start up faction segments for pre-existing factions or new character generated groups. If nothing else this could help bolster the rosters of certain groups that are understaffed or under represented in some way.
I do see the logic in some financial help for trusted, proven RPers in trying to start player groups. A capital ship will make a faction feel more legitimate. Maybe it doesn't for everyone, or shouldn't, but it does in my mind.
As someone who's tried to start 3 groups thus far on Disco, I can see some of the desires this idea expresses.
I also see how this could dull things, as handing out money and such to circumvent work is showing a certain favoritism in the minds of the have-nots, no matter how hard someone worked to earn the handout. It also makes one less concerned with the upkeep and responsibility of the faction's maintenance. Ideally, the players getting such help would not falter, but we can't count on it being a fully successful effort.
