I have 2 slots 'free' on my Mako. currently there are 2 cruise missles sitting there as an experiment. seeing as those things are useless beyond all comprehension, I want to ditch em.
I'd like to put something usefull there. something anti-bomber. so that narrows it down to:
- BR
- Solaris
- secondaries
- flak
BR
Needs a 'support' weapon to de-shield an incoming bomber. seeing as I don't have a free slot for support weapons, that's a no go. prims can't really de-shield a proper bomber. plus I'm a crap shot with razors.
Solaris
rips bombers a new one. in numbers. but I have just 2 slots. and 2 solaris aren't really dangerous to a bomber. they migth de-shield the bomber and damage it a little bit. but that's all. so a tad useless I think
Secondaries
more damage, but slower. quite pointless on all grounds.
Flak
can really ruin a bomber's day. but requires dead on hits, and works best in combination with solaris. for which I don't have free slots.
so, what's the best bet? I know it's tempting to say 'free some more slots' but I can't. it's the 2 I have to work with. so, what's the best choice when only 2 slots are avaiable?
Realize that there is no real 'anti-bomber' weapon, cruisers and battleships just aren't really designed to take them out. The Mako is the Battleship, right? Battlerazors are anti-GB then, and flak are useless. Solaris might work against stupid bombers, but they don't have enough range to be entirely effective.
You should focus your power on anti-capital, you're just wasting energy if you're trying to take out bombers. I know it's not ideal, and you'll feel rather helpless against bombers, but you should really only mobilize your battleship to take out other capital ships.
Well, I would recommend the razors, because when you do snipe bombers, they die. I'm also told that flaks make you immune to bombers. If you've only got two, the Solaris/Secondaries aren't really worth it.

Good thing no one told me that
I've never seen Flak kill any one except unsuspecting allies and suicides. We killed an LABC with three fighters, and it did more damage to it's self with them than to any of us. It ended up killing it's self with Flaks.
Last time I flew Kusari BS and met a bomber I fired 2 flaks which deshielded him at 900meters then killed him with a Razor even though he was dodging ;)
The friendly fire on flaks might be a problem yes, but if the BS is unescorted or if it's escorted by GBs flaks make good support weapon. But they are far from "hit the button and watch him explode".
LABC with flaks is fail:
1. It doesn't have enough energy to fire then together with other guns
2. Due to turret positions it can only fire 1 to each side and NONE under.

So it you have 2 empty slots I'd say either Razors (which also work vs GBs) or Flaks.
1 BS missile can be quite nasty vs running GBs or cruisers, but since you have 2 slots it's better to pick one of the above.
Igiss says: Martin, you give them a finger, they bite off your arm.
From my point of view, you may get 2 razors, it can be really usefull when it comes to insta-kill an engine killer
Flak are also a good point if you want to protect yourself from nova torpedoes.
2* Solaris is simply a no-go. It should be used at least by 4 (that make me think I could change my own BS for more anti cap defences)
I don't know the positions of the mako hardpoints, but if you want to turn 2 other turrets to solaris to get the 4 solaris setup, make sure they are really close each other or your aim, efficiency and range will turn them into crap.
My suggestion is get razors and practice with them. They can be very deadly if used properly.
They are great for sniping bombers. But it requires some solid skills I think.
