Hi everyone, I'm new here and wanted to clear something up before I accidentally got in any trouble.
What is legal and illegal to do with a Neutral ID?
As long as you don't have anything bigger than a freighter, can you haul/trade whatever you want, legal or illegal? Can military/police PCs orders you to drop your illegal cargo, and attack if you fail to comply?
Are you allowed to take NPC jobs? Are you allowed to take certain NPC jobs (such as lawful ones) but not others (such as unlawful ones)?
Er, I thought I had another question, but it seems to have slipped my mind. Thanks in advance.
' Wrote:1. You can't trade at all with a Neutral ID... Thats what a Trader ID is for.
So, they can get freighters, but aren't allowed to haul anything in them? Freighters carry significantly less than transports, meaning if a Neutral character wanted to do any serious trading they'd need to upgrade to a Trader ID anyway. Does this mean that you can't tractor and sell commodities from wrecks (both destroyed NPCs and the wrecks scattered throughout various systems)?
I don't see anything under Neutral IDs that say they cannot trade... It's just that they would be stuck trading in sub-par ships (fighters or freighters).
And as for the police/military ordering a Neutral to drop cargo/attacking if they don't, can they do this in any system where they have authority (all of Liberty for a Liberty Navy character, etc.), or just their "home" system? Neutral IDs say they can only be attacked in Clan systems or the arena system, it doesn't mention any exceptions (besides self defense).
Just trying to get this cleared up, since your answers contradict those mentioned in the ID.
"Pilot carrying this ID has declared himself or herself lawful and neutral towards all factions. Neutral ID owner cannot attack other players (self-defense is allowed). Other players should not attack ships equipped with Neutral ID anywhere except clan systems and Connecticut arena system. Neutral ID owners cannot join any factions, except factions that are neutral themselves.
Allowed ships: Fighters, Freighters
Carrying unmounted IDs in your ship, as well as not equipping an ID, is a serious crime."
You can trade all you want with the neutral ID and not be worried about being attacked by anyone, unless you are in a faction's home system ("anywhere except clan systems.") For example if you are smuggling in Reinland and the RM scan you, they can attack you if it happens in New Berlin or Braunswieg. Outside of those two systems is merely their ZOI, not their home system so they would not be allowed to attack you in systems like Dresden, Hamburg or Frankfurt.
I am pretty sure you ARE allowed to trade with the freighters you can buy with the neutral ID. I agree, you can trade, but you can only trade with the lame ships that wont make you very much profit.
' Wrote:An addendum. There is a lawful clause in that ID, so smuggling is out, only lawful trade is allowed.
That's how I saw it, which I think also means you can only take lawful NPC jobs. Luckily for me, the best trading I've found so far is completely legal.
Like I said, I'm new to Discovery, and prefer to stay neutral for now. My freighter only holds 400 units of cargo, but is a fair bit smaller and more maneuverable than a larger transport, making it easier for me to fly around and explore, while still being tougher than a fighter. I expect that at some point (when I've explored enough and made enough cash to buy a nice transport) I'll upgrade to a Trader ID.

Go even farther than that! Pick a corporation and fly their colors. Buy their ID and get affiliated with them. Neglected corporations: Orbital Spa and Cruise, Deep Space Engineering, GMG, Daumann, BMM...the list goes on, and practically noone play those roles...
Question along similar lines... If I were to form a faction without any NPC alignment, but with swayings, and expansive, militaristic behaivours, but one that treats both sides of the law with equal or semi-equal behaivour, what ID should I be using?

Pick a side! You'll have more fun, I promise.
Don't know about that, I've been liking the idea of a free trader, unaligned with any corp or clan... At least with this character. I'll give it some thought before I decide for sure... I still have a ways to go before I even switch out of my Neutral status.
