Clan Specified Arms (CSA) Discussion Thread (every opinion is welcome)
Could that be possible for clans to have their own special weapons modded? Maybe it could be considered for level 9 guns for the beginning. The clan would pay a proper price for their own weapon which would grant them some advantage over the others. This could make the struggle to gain the upperhand between clans more exciting and challanging in my opinion. As you guys mentioned in this thread, building stations and vice versa could be possible for a clan only if they pay its cost. So a clan would also pay for their original weapons which only their members -or clans who they have done deals with for the weapon usage- could use and trade them. It could be open for some beta testing maybe while admins would announce the official clans in the rp server and the ones who wish to purchase the right of producing their own weapons would pay the appropiate fees to own their clan specified weapons.
So what would a clan specified weapon mean and where would it be sold and also who would be able to use and carry these weapons and would this be possible for admins to code the clan weapons whose efficiency would be prolly determiend by the purchase fee? (the more a clan pays the more variable and effective weapons they would have, yet not to make totally unbalanced weapons there should be a limiting factor which would be determined by the admins)
1. A clan specified weapon would mean a weapon who has the name of its clan name and level on it.The name could be determiend by the clan members. For example, [SA] Laser Gun Mk II Level 9 or [RM] Plasma Turret Level 4 or 5 (open for discussion)
2. A clan would be able to sell and equip their own weapons only if they have purchased a factory or something else which could be determied by the admins. These weapons would only be sold at these clan owned bases and clan members would have access to them which means although being out of a clan and using or trading their weapons would be the violation of the rules.
3. The hardest point is how to code these weapons and could that be possible to code if so for clans who pay an amount of money and wish their own stats on these weapons. As I said before it would be more logical to try this project for only level 9 fighter guns since they have a spreadout usage and only a single class would not be so hard for admins to work on it instead of trying to implement dozens of new guns or weapons.
For example, a clan wants their specified gun. They first pay some amount of money to get the facility to produce it whatever you call it factory or something else. Later on it comes to determine the stats of the weapon they are going to have. My opinion here is if a clan is paying a large amount of money to gain the right of their own specified weapon then that weapon/s should grant them some advantage over other players and clans. The stats could be determined by the admins and it would also be in proportion with the sum a clan pays. But at least if a clan is going to pay money to do so, they should have better level 9 or special level 10 guns then the other players have. Just think of a nomad energy blaster, a clan could be capable of mounting them in their fighters as level 9 guns with this procedure. Just an example I give here, since the stats and names would differ and this idea is completely open for further discussion.
(Additionaly there could be something more implemented. Corsairs have a level 10 weapon sold at their bases which is called colada del cid. Lawful factions such as liberty, rheinland, bretonia and kusari could also have their own level 10 guns being sold at their bases. This would lead a liberty pilot to be able to mount a level 10 vengeance or magma hammer gun while a Bretonia pilot would have the chance to buy a level 10 Adv. Splitter or Sunrail and etc. This could lead the fighters gun selection to be more varible putting it out of a simple selection composed of nomad, coded and shield buster guns).
4. If done so, implementing an advantage for richer clans would make the gamplay unfair? Well, I want everybodys opinion here. In my opinion implementing such a feature could contribute the rp fun with some more excitement, investement and challange. Clans would have long term policies about weapon production. And the challange between factions would climb up, since after some decent period everbody gain the advantage to reach the best weapons, stuff and etc. The idea could also be furthermore improved with maybe clan specified ships* But for now I want your opinions about implementing 2 weapon classes (fighter gun and turret) for the clans who pay the fee to own the right to produce and sell their specified weapons.
* And also if a clan would make a deal with another clan to allow them the usage of their weapons, they would have to post it in the forum before doing so. A clan owning a specified weapon could also decide to let trading of their weapons in return for a decent profit they would earn from the basic selling price of the product. If you find the idea favorable, we could think more about this issue in advance.
That's a good idea, I have also a suggestionfor the weapon advantages and their balancing, which should work well:
The clans are able to choose the weapon type(laser, photon, pulse and the others), maybe they differ at the price too. The weapon comes thenwith standard stats(e.g. 100 hull/50 shield damage, range 649m, speed 750m/s, refire 8.33 and energy 25). Then it comes to the customization, the stats have a set amount of points that vary for all stats(e.g for hull damage and energy consumption 5 points, refire rate and and range 4 points, speed and shield damage 3 points). The clans can then remove one point from the one stat and add it to the other(e.g., remove one point from energy consumption and add it to hull damage to a higher hull damage output that needs more energy). There could be an option for rich clans to buy extra points, but to protect the balance there should be a limit(e.g. max. 3-4 points).

Sorry to sound as I'm bashing you two or something but there are Class 9 faction specific weapons. They may need some rebalance but... if you took a careful look, you'd find out that the Kraken 2 isn't the best gun in the game for example.

Ok, I am not even a week in the game(or is it already a week? Not sure) and I didn't see many players in clans, especially scanning them, but if a clan thinks that there are too few weapons for them(I know, why would they need more weapons? I don't know, too) then my idea is open to use.
@Nightfall: I think Kress meant server faction specific weapons, not NPC faction specific weapons, but correct me please, if the Kraken 2 weapon is a server faction specific weapon.
I like that. I like that a lot, the research stations I've mentioned in the other thread would be responsible for these weapon designs.
Later when the research is done - the gun is balanced, slightly better than the previous models, having the desired graphic appearance, sound and shot model, it's ready for production - gets put on the faction's guard base. The condition, requied to buy one (usualy 0.3mil, just a suggestion) is full green rep with the guard or at least just about enough that noone just after a bribe could get the gun.
The guns could not only have various stats, but different looks. On another mod I've seen guns, soounding like guns and using the fury shot model. Combined with some good speed (was 1200 there here it could be 900-1000) and refire rate (was about 15 there, here the good stuff is 8.33) it gives outstandig visual and sonic effects, you just wanna keep shooting.
Guys, do remember we are not the only server running this mod.. There will be no 'BSG 3195x pew pew Cannon.' There might be an IMG Cannon, but there would be NO BSG weaponry, since BSG is just a PC faction, and not present in the mod, but only the server. So while this idea could be classified as good, keep in mind that ALL new weaponry would be NPC-faction, not PC faction.
What Dab's saying is that the people on the other servers don't want the BSG Proton cannon, they'd want their own specific faction weapons. They couldn't have that unless they made their own mod...

Sure it sounds like a good idea, but since the Official Server isn't the only one running Discovery...it may not work out too well. Though I would like a customized neutron cannon with a better rate of fire...

But the Battlestar BS are... obviously already BSG. Other mods (like TNG I think) had Star Wars ships. I don't see the problem with it. I just don't get why people on other servers wouldn't mind the BSG-ships but would mind BSG-weapons?
