The Gunboats, Yoshihiro, Yoshikazu and Yoshinori, remain docked on Kyoto Base, awaiting the time when they will be used to defend Blood Dragon Space. Attached below is the copy of the story, told in traditional style, as it was passed down from generation to generation. Sendai Research Station have yet to conclude whether the happenings in this story are true, or merely a myth.
The Legend
In the days of the honourable Shogun Hideyoshi, there lived three brothers. As the Shogun began to age, he was forced to decide which of his three sons would inherit his position as a Shogun of Kusari. The Three Brothers each decided to study their favorite trades, the first in Ship construction, the second in jousting and the third in research.
The first brother studied from a young age, learning the art of design and architecture. Employed at a young age by Samura Heavy Industries, the first brother became an excellent craftsman, finding a talented master to teach him the art of ship construction. Successfully acclaimed by many Kusarian critics after constructing the highest , the first brother saw nothing but success in his path to succeed his father.
The second brother moved permanently to the Kyushu system, to learn the art of combat. When he had finished his face-to-face combat training with the Kusari Naval Forces, the Second Brother began training in the vastly unknown wilderness of Southern Kyushu and even as far as Tau-29. The second brother mastered maneuvers with his fellow officers through asteroid fields only achievable after years of practice. After years of isolated training, the Second Brother rose to the top ranks of the Kusari Naval Forces, succeeding all his peers in all forms of one on one combat. After receiving the highest medals of honour for service to the Kusari Naval Forces, the second brother saw nothing but success in his path to succeed his father.
The third brother went even further than the second, moving between research facilities in Honshu and Sigma 13. Years and years of constant research came and went for the third brother, and many amazing discoveries were found which earned him numerous prizes. After eventually joining the Gas Miners Guild, the third brother revolutionized the art of mining not only gas, but other minerals as well. Acclaimed by the media to be the "smartest in Kusari", the Second brother saw nothing but success in his path to succeed his father.
After many years of studying and honing their skills, the shogun finally decided to summon each of his sons to present to him the fruits of their years of studies. The three brothers each arrived at the Shogun's Imperial Yacht, each confident that they would be easily able to succeed their father.
The first brother, Yoshikazu, was eager to show off his display of architecture. Unveiling his new project, the First brother unveiled a heavily modified Kusari Destroyer, modified such to the amount that it was able to mount one Battleship class turret without overloading the power engine. Outfitted with the most modern of technology, the Destroyer's agility and power was unmatched in any of Kusari's ships. Shogun Hideyoshi was thoroughly impressed.
"I cannot see how any of my other sons could master such a feat" he said, "But let us see what my other sons have to show me."
The second brother, Yoshihiro, humbly stepped forward. Challenging each of Hideyoshi's royal guard, Yoshihiro managed to defeat each of them in one on one combat, barely obtaining a scratch. Yoshihiro stepped forward into his Chimaera, and managed to cripple a Kusari Destroyer without being destroyed himself. Thoroughly entertained, Shogun Hideyoshi was in fact confused now, as to whom to choose to succeed him.
The third brother, Yoshinori, snapped his fingers, an ordered a weapon of the Imperial yacht be replaced with a single flare cannon, which he himself had invented. Diverting all power from the powerplant to the weapon, Yoshinori lit up the skies of New Tokyo with the brightness of a thousand stars. Gaping in awe, Shogun Hideyoshi was now completely unable to determine which of the three brothers he would choose to succeed him.
Shogun Hideyoshi could not decide which of the three brothers to choose to succeed him, each of the three were equally talented in each of their areas of expertise. Finally, he came to an answer. He would leave the three of them to decide between each other who would be the one to succeed him.
Thus, each of the brothers were locked in a room to decide which of the three would be chosen to succeed their father, Shogun Hideyoshi. However, each of the brothers were arrogant in their attempt to succeed their father's role, and each stuck to their opinion that they should be the ones to succeed their father.
Three days and three nights passed, with no news on who would be the one to succeed Shogun Hideyoshi as place on the Kusari Shogunate. The Three brothers were each convinced that they were the ones most eligible to succeed their father.
On the fourth day, Shogun Hideyoshi opened the doors for the first time in order to hear the verdict of the three brothers, however, when he opened the doors, he found that throughout all that time, none of them had been able to decide which of them would be the one to succeed and take Hideyoshi's place on the Kusari Shogunate. Angered by this, Hideyoshi was disgusted that none of his sons were able to lower their pride to vote for which of them would be able to succeed them. "If after three days and three nights, you have been unable to come to a decision" he said, "Then none of you have the right to succeed me!"
The three brothers were angered at their father's decision. They carried about their work as usual, thinking that they had wasted the past 20 years of their life for a lost cause, however much they tried, all three were unable to use each of their skills effectively to help them in their life.
Then, in that fateful day in 321 A.S., the honourable Shogun Hideyoshi was overthrown, with the Hideyoshi Dynasty. The three brothers found themselves casted amongst the chaos, hunted by both Samura and the Kusari Naval Forces. Whisked away by the Royal Guard, the three brothers travelled with them to northern Kusari, only to form the Blood Dragons.
The three brothers were struck with guilt. All three of them had failed their fathers wishes. Dishonour shamed them in midst of the royal guard, though things were not as barren as they seemed.
After months of survival off leftover food rations, the crew managed to locate a large asteroid in which to build a base. The base was named Kyoto, by Kozue Okamura, a loyalist to Shogun Hideyoshi.
But the three brothers had found a place to finally make use of their skills, the very skills that they had been honing for 20 years. The Third brother created weapons capable of harvesting vital minerals from the asteroids in Chugoku. The first brother sketched plans for docking bays on Kyoto base. The second brother thought survival skills to all the pilots and new recruits - training them day after day to survive in the barren wilderness.
The Three Brothers were temporarily satisfied with their achievements, however, they still felt that they had to earn redemption for the dishonour that they had brought to the Hideyoshi name. Venturing out from Chugoku, together, the three brothers finally found peace amongst each other. Together the brothers, united as one, the Three Brothers ventured back to Kusari, seeking a new future amongst the people.
