So I started a luxury yacht and started shipping vip's.
My roleplay for the character is that he is a freelancer who likes the finer things in life, but isn't willing to work for him. He buys a Democritus on credit and how has to ship VIP's and tourists and such to make the credit card payments. He is always goofing around and anytime he gets pirated he invites his would be attackers aboard to enjoy the jacuzzi's, floor shows, and buffets.
If the pirates ask for money, assuming it is not the end of the end of the month when the credit card bill is due, that is not a problem. If the pirates ask for some of the VIP's then things get a little more complicated. Last time I got pirated I handed some over, but it is a bad business model to let pirates take your passengers.
Should I give up my VIP's or fight or make a run for it? About the only legitmate excuse for giving up the VIP's I could think of is that I sound the abadon ship alarm in select rooms, they run to the escape pods, and poof. PIrate is happy and my business isn't ruined.

You would lose business quite quickly if word spread out (in-RP), so I think you should try to leg it. You should never give them up. Or let them down. Or run around and desert them. (sorry, I just had to make that joke)

"How is a slim chance of dying a better option than loosing your main mean of income." you mean. It is all a matter of interpretation. I'd try to leg it. The Yatch is well armored, small and fast.
Well, this all depends on your interpretation of the situation. If you're within a close proximity to a friendly base, try and book it. You're a Yacht, and if you're smart, you'll have a Universal Armor VIII to double your armor. Twenty cargo is really worth that, don't you think? If you're in the middle of bloody nowhere, though, cry and scream for sympathy, give the pirate a counter offer, and look for the nearest LNS, HMS, RNC, or INK, and LN/LPI/LSF, BPA/BAF, KSP/KNF, or RFP/RM and hope to god that once they get there they can aim.
As someone who has only been successfully pirated once this version, I have to say that your best defense is your wit. The more you passively writhe around, the more of a chance you get of getting away. Never try to blatantly run until you are sure you can get away, else you're looking for the pirates to kill you. But, don't forget, a little action does really well for your customers.
