On the subject of graphics performance -- I've never gotten FL to run without juddering, even with all eyecandy switched off (except the tiniest bit of background -- plain black is just too "dead").
I've gone through a number of graphics cards, starting with a GeForce3Ti and ending with a GeForce 6150 LE -- to be honest, I have always struggled with mass PvP and trade lanes.
At the moment, Fraps declares a fluctuating 40fps in trade lanes.
What's the lowest spec that runs FL smoothly (i.e. never dropping under 60fps)?
I know you've all probably got hot rigs as your flagship machine -- please don't make me jealous with your overclocked uber-cooled twin GPU's. I really am looking for the cheapest upgrade that will make my FL experience flow like it's supposed to.
Thanks in advance...
PS. My CPU is an Athlon 64 3500+, running on Windows 7 (64 bit) with 2Gb of the best Corsair memory my MB supports -- so I don't think grunt is the problem - I'm pretty sure it's the graphics capabilities...
If your hardware is this bad then you probably shouldn't use the latest OS, Windows 7 requires at least 4GB of RAM. Read the optimum requirements of the game.
Windows 7 supports very well FL. I`m running FL on my laptop and it works great. Try to get the latest drivers for your card because Windows 7 seems to not support all video cards so you need to install the drivers.
System requirements:
OS: Microsoft Windows 98/Me/XP/2000
PROCESSOR: PC with 600 MHz equivalent or higher processor
RAM: 128 MB RAM
GRAFICS: 16 MB video card required
HD: 900 Mb
DIRECT-X: v9.0c

Thanks -- yes it does -- in a way. I looked up the requirements MS recommends and they're basically double what you say there -- 1GHz CPU, 256 MB RAM, 32 MB 3D GPU -- all of which I have except the graphics card (it's integrated).
My previous cards had lots more RAM, the CPU was 3GHz+, but I was still jerking just like with my current setup. Do you have a flawless visual experience? Am I unreasonably expecting perfectly smooth gameplay?
We are seeing people with some sort of problems latley with their visual, lags, etc.
For your PC you can run FL without problems, even with a integrated card. Try to see if your drivers are up to date. Do you have directX installed?

Thanks for that -- I definitely have DirectX 11 on and running. Windows reports no available updates for the card, but I'll check on nVidia site later. My symptoms are not quite as bad as the ones described in the link, so it feels like a different problem for me.
I'll keep looking -- but it is well possible that the integrated card is the problem. If I'm going to pick myself a new graphics card after Xmas, I'd like to know (roughly) what my minimum spec is. I'm not terribly interested in running the latest games, so I don't mind getting an older card -- as long as my Freelancer experience is genuinly going to be enhanced. (that's the reason behind my post in the first place)
