To put things simply, I can, bag, and ship air. I work in an air compressing factory owned by Ageria Tech. What, you think they're all involved in gate and lane construction? Naw, they're bigger than that.
I had to hustle and bustle to keep my job, often working ludicrous hours for receeding pay. Slants and Crumpets kept coming in, taking cheap work. This work shift already had almost 100 hours work time logged. And I'm getting another pay cut.
When I say that I can, bag and ship air, I'm talking about oxygen filters and recyclers. They're in every ship, and they keep your breathin'. I own a ship. Just a civilian model, cost me nearly everything. Since I divorced that whore and took the majority of our savings, anyway. I fly short-term shipping runs for a bit of mooch, and I've already paid down the support loan I took out on the thing.
I arrived at my workplace without an issue. I strapped on my protective gloves, slid into my apron, tied my hair back, and approached my.. station, if you want to call it that. A small cubicle with an open back and controls to operate the arms that manufactured the filters and storage containers. Only, something was wrong. Someone was in my station. From the small swivels of his head, I saw it was a Slant. A damn dirty Slant was in MY station, doing MY job. I strode up to him and grabbed the back of his shirt and hauled him out. He had a terrified look on his face as soon has he caught sight of me. Before I could pound the living piss out of the guy, I had security on me, hauling us apart.
"I told you he'd take it badly. Hey, Aer. Come on." I heard some words through the faint red haze. I struggled against my retainers to look at the voice. "Aer, we have to look out for the company. I'm sure you understand. You're a hard worker, but Ageria just can't afford to pay your outrageous price. Perhaps you can find a job in mining. Goodbye."
I struggled and writhed in my retainer's hands. Letting out a stream of curses against the bastards who'd laid me off. Outrageous prices? I lived in the goddamn factory, I was paid barely enough to feed myself! I often worked until my hands bled and I fell asleep standing. I would not accept this. Not a chance. This was going right to the police.
