GIMP 2.6 Tutorials

I downloaded GIMP a while ago but never really got to using it. I just didn't have time to learn it, and wasn't curious enough to learn how to.

But now I am. So, I searched for a tutorial. Found one, but it cost $29.99, and I doubt my parents would understand me wanting to get it. How ironic that the program is free but a decent tutorial is expensive.... But anyway, does anyone know any decent tutorials out there for complete beginners?

Thanks for the link, but there are a lot of options that I don't have or are in different areas in different formats. I think it's talking about a previous version.

Yeah I was afraid of that.... Well that same Site, GIMPtalk.org, has a ton of other tutorials, community made as well as "Official" so browse around for some beginner ones. So far as I know, Gimptalk is the best place for GIMP tutorials. There are also a few on DeviantArt under Resources & Stock Images>Tutorials>Application Reference>The Gimp if you want to check that out too.

If you ever have any questions about GIMP, how to do something, where something is, etc. My skype is most always online (doesn't mean I'm there though, see profile for address), I may not be the GIMP guru I once was but I've still got a fair understanding about it and I'll do my best to help you out.

If I may - try using Gimp 2.2.17. It has a - in my opinion - much better interface; it's far easier to use and much more intuitive than the interface they've introduced since (which, again, imo, is completely retarded). Give it a shot.

If you're getting started on raster editing, I personally recommend Paint.NET. It's much more friendly for beginners.
