Tenny, I know the nommie torp has just about the same stats as the mini, but its not the same animal.
I really don't know about this suggestion that the mini will help snac aim...But they're not the same animal. Daitos aren't Suncannons, etc. Oh, what am I saying, nothing's ever different enough to make them unique, and the feels are different from person to person.
Anyway, I agree with you that the mini and the snac aren't the same...
If you're completely new to supernova work I would suggest starting with NPCs, most of them are pretty simple targets that'll give you a good lesson in lining up your shots and energy management.
Human players and npcs are very very dissimilar in how they fly however, so ultimately your best bet will be switching over.
For level II practice I enjoy the game "First to hit shield", it results in fewer undocks and it's good sparring practice if you have enough people at a tradelane/choke point to keep an eye on things while two people break off for some field training.
However hitting shields is much easier than actually hitting a target.
However, for hitting the target the following bits of wisdom might come in handy.
A) Ensure that the snac is the ONLY weapon turned on. Anything else will throw off your crosshair.
B) Wait until the target is within 50-100 meters, aim at the +. Most snac hits are made on the pass. With a spot of lag many people will seem to explode after they've passed you.
C) Gut instinct will lead to many snac hits. If it feels right go for it.
D) If you're fighting another bomber, do recall that anything you can snac can also snac you. Strafe is vital to dodging snacs. There are some people that are -far- better pilots than I am who I can easily smoke in a bomber on bomber fight because they forgo strafe in order to focus on launching. Which means you can kill them from 300 meters out.
E) Try to not get insanely frustrated. I'm an upper lower tier bomber pilot. Basically I can hold my own but I'm barely a step above cannon fodder. I have roughly a 10% hit rate with the snac. You will miss a lot, a lot more than you hit.
F) Forget whatever you've heard on the forums. Some people have amazing aim and can do magical things with a snac, the rest of us will miss a lot. Bombers are not cruise control for win.
Also, learn your bomber. Different bombers act very, very differently. Torp placement isn't everything, figure out your range of motion. The Upholder, for example, tracks with great difficulty from left to right.

Nomad torp is faster and has a larger "hit" box, which helps.
Edit: My info is outdated on the faster. I am a n00b. Though I am interested if the hitbox was changed.

You're right, the nomad torp is worse in every way =P
Both of them have exactly the same size projectile hitbox, aside from that the nomtorp does less damage, costs more energy, and has a slower projectile speed. By all means, it's harder to hit with the torpedo than it is with the razor, we just get a lot of practice with it since it's generally the primary weapon used by most keepers.

Read above, you're spreading a lie and misconception like so many people on this forum.
The nomad torpedo has a larger visual effect, but the actual hitbox of the projectile is exactly the same size as the mini razor. The nomad torpedo has a 10m/s slower projectile speed as well.

I believe that we will all be richer should you provide proof to counter my position. Until said time I would encourage you to restrain from derailing every single thread (literally every single one, this is not hyperbole) on the forum with posts about the nomad torpedo.
The SN is very hard to get to grips with unless you have good co-ordination skills and decent spatial awareness (which is quite hard in a game based off a 2D screen). Even if you have these basic talents, against more aware opponents that do not act like complete cowards (because you dont have to turn your ass around and run for the hills when your shield drops, like so many people do), you will need both excellent timing and, crucially, a good prediction of how much your energy bar is drained by the SN. If you attempt to launch too early and the launch fails, you usually have to wait the reload time again to fire.
There are three main ways to kill with the SN.
Jousting; Great, if they dont strafe. Far harder, but still possible, if they do. Many people do not even do this however, so its good practice to get your basic aim down. Remember, time it, predict the movement of the targetting cross, and hit the fire button.
When people early turn; Oooh, I love it when people cut across the screen and thrust for a nice, uniform early turn. Makes my day when an SN catches them in the closer wing.
Picking on other people; Yes, if you're not the target, people usually arent paying the slightest bit of attention to you. This is when they are vulnerable. Usually applicable when the entire other team is focussing on another cap, usually a gunboat.
However, if your enemy are smart and not complete cowards, they will be able to hit you fairly easily without you being able to do the slightest thing about it.
Another good note is to time their shield regens (and yours). Usually, after their shields drop, you have two passes to land an SN. Dont be afraid to sacrifice the first in order to gain a better angle on the second. About your regens, this is mainly for use in bomber-on-bomber fights. Dont be afraid to joust with your bomber, but have your finger on the F key. If they take the bait and try to SN/nova torp you, they will be flying in a straight line without strafe to line you up (more advanced bombers (which are rare) strafe anyway). Hit F about half a second before you launch your own SN. They hit shield. You hit hull. The end.

This has actually been said by Mjolnir on many occassions.
But he wouldn't know, since he isn't the balance king.
Oh, hang on a sec...

Mjolnir has his head so far up his backside he cant see his computer screen. Honestly, he got his position by kissing up to igiss, not by knowing how to properly balance a game.

TENACITY: The above text is both a flame and an insult to both Mjolnir and Igiss. It is rude and uncalled for. It is also prohibited by the forum rules. I'll quote:

You should publicly apologize to both of them. If you choose not to you will be in a good deal trouble.

This said however, there are some... abnormalities in the issue of balancing.
Like the Voidrunner, for instance.
So lets not talk about balancing in a thread that has nothing to do with it?

Hello Tenacity. Final strike for off topic character flaming.
Next one and you will be provided with a delightful time out to consider which ship you'll be re-buying first, as I am rather sure that you'll have lots of empty character slots to fill with new vessels.
