some time ago - i showed a revised version of the zoner juggernaut. - at that time it was mostly unskinned ( or rather totally unskinned )
reason why i revised the concept:
the current juggernaut looks nice - but somehow it doesn t really transport the idea of a very heavy ship. - i know... its large - but it doesn t really look too heavy. - on the other hand, i wouldn t wanne have a ship that is just a huge and heavy block in space... so it also needs some "grace".
this skinned version now is both - heavier ( much heavier in terms of looks, i think ) - and also elegant enough.
the two folding shields are half transparent, - only two instead of three biodomes left ( but larger ones, and bend downwards a little ) - three engines and a rather massive habitational module below the main hull give it a much greater look like a battering ram than before.
i have still placed four of the 16 turrets in its front ( to upset the aiming a little ) but arranged them in a way that two of them are now centralized along the length axis of the ship. ( for those that like symetry and still wanne mount only one weapon )
now the question is - if those that currently fly ( or those that plan to fly ) a juggernaut agree with the visual change. ( its a visual change - nothing else changes )
all in all - the ship looks both, older but also more sophisticated ( and - its more similar to the Persephone, which is / was meant to be the precurser of the "modern" zoner juggernaut ) - it looks more "fearsome" and "intimidating". the whole ship is more a fortress than a civilian "station" ( so those that RP as a freeport might not agree with it much ) - it shows much more battleship characteristics than colonyship characteristics.
oh - one thing.... for a ship of its size, i thought that it really could need a little more firepower to other arcs than only its front. - so i allowed 2 more turrets to fire backwards ( i don t think that ll upset its enemies much )
edit: for those that are concerned with the massive shape - the hitbox is 100% identical to the current one - i just filled up some "space" that is currently covered by the hitbox.
edit2:
added the Persephone to show what ship its supposed to be derived from. - as you can see, the Persephone is slimmer and doesn t feature the biodomes - it shows slightly more "fluent/flowing" shapes but is clearly more aimed to be a "battleship" than the juggernaut.
This one does look more heavy, but to be honest the current one has more view ports, which makes it look less of a battleship but more of a non military vessel. The one you've got here, looks more like a battleship, which the Juggernaut isn't (in terms of RP).
I do however think that the skin style here should be put on the current jinkusu, it would certainly look more updated.
Alternatively, you could add more view ports to this design, I can't see any myself.
Honestly, I like the old, more elegant version better. The first thing that pops into my mind when I think of zoners is the old Jinkusu, not this one, which seems to be an alien warship.
I would have to go with this new version. Why? Well hopefully it will make RP sense for a ship that's meant to be somewhat of a moveable base to have more than one tiny engine and still be able to move as fast as lighter battleships. On the design part, I would prefer a more rounded top (just my opinion of course), though I specifically adore the engine pattern.
Although the engine pattern may look great, the head pretty much looks like a block. Although that probably be what it should look like (Isn't a Juggernaut that thing which bashes walls in with its head?), I find in contrast to the giant engines, not much of this ship is actually free space for the actual base (Oh look, a rhyme) - but then I am contradicting myself, seeing as I stated earlier about the lack of engines on the current model.
Certainly this ship looks heavier overall - to be honest, I'm not actually a fan of the new model (though I do love the biodomes), though I believe that the heaviness does, as you stated, takes a little bit out of the whole freeport/station/colony ship out of the equation. This for me is a little bit of a negative side - mainly because I don't believe the Zoners need such a warship, seeing as they're zoners and there aren't many things out to get them (Nomads maybe, but I assume this thing will have some kind of escort system as with all capital ships).
In one line, Great model, but I think it needs more focus on the head / station feel of the ship.
a word of explanation should be applied here though...
the juggernaut is NOT a colony ship, nor is it a civilian behemoth of any kind. - the original lore about the juggernaut states that zoners - on their remote explorations - found a derelict shell / remains of an ancient warship ( since there re not too many "aliens" out there - and this one doesn t look nomadish in any way - we may consider it some forgotten DK wreck or something )
zoners dragged the old wreck to one of their major shipyards and restored it. - in that process they learned much about shipbuilding - which lead to the construction of the modern "juggernaut".
for the sake of the lore - the Persephone is "supposed" to be that old wreck ( restored ) - while the jinkusu is the derived ship which is build by the zoners.
what the ship actually was - or what it was used for - is unknown. if we compare the Persephone with this ship - the most obvious change is the biodomes. - so.... zoners adjusted the old shell to provide a fully autonomous deep space base that is fully self sufficient ( compared to the precurser )
still - that still nither makes it a battleship, nor a colony ship. - shipclasses on zoner ships are somewhat fuzzy. - almost all the ships serve no particular purpose - but are all hybrids of some sort. - the fearless is a heavy transport, the aquillon is a base-ship without the ability to be self sufficient, the juggernaut is an overgrown and self sufficient baseship, the corvo is a research and exploration vessel and the conference is/was meant to be an armoured transport mk2.
so - a juggernaut is mostly what the captain makes of it. - precious beyond measure, it might be a deadly weapon, but so expensive that zoners cannot afford to loose one - making it as much a weapon as a minigun that is firing platinum pellets at a rate of 1000 / minute. ( you know you can kill people easily with it, but you really don t wanne even waste a single shot )
i ll place an image of the Persephone here, too - so one can compare the developement of the two ships. - and yes... in order to make it look more like a "home", i can also attach more windows to it .. if that helps.
edit:
added an image of the Persephone in post #1 - so you can compare the jinkusu with its precurser
