Oberst Frederick Belz, formerly the 2nd Inspekteur of the Rheinland Federal Polizei, listened to the workings of his grandfather clock as he sifted through paperwork with as much attention as a student gives to a boring teacher. But he knew the paperwork meant nothing. He longed to return to his old position, as rightful Inspekteur of the Polizei, the Polizei which he served without judgement. He was the real brains behind the organisation. Used to be, anyway, until his "friend" removed him from his place and backed him into a corner. And now what had he become? A paper-sorter.
Tick.
Tock.
Tick.
Tock.
Why did Viktor Heinz deserve the position anyway? He had the ability to hypnotise anyone he met with his smile and charm, as if he were using sorcery. Perhaps that was what it was. Sorcery. Or perhaps there was more to his "friend" than he knew, hidden deep under the pretty-boy exterior. A stupid pretty-boy. He hadn't even noticed Belz's change of opinion about him. Heinz still saw Belz as a friend, but it wasn't the other way around.
Tick.
Tock.
Tick.
Tock.
He eventually grew too bored of his paperwork to even pretend he was paying attention, and instead turned his attention to his phone. Waiting for it to ring. With an emergency that needed his utmost attention. With his new position, it would be a miracle if he was called about a broken coffee dispencer, let alone a situation that required real action. The action with guns and violence and true action to be the only solution.
But to his surprise, his phone did ring. And to his surprise, it was far more important than a broken coffee dispencer.
'Frederick,' the calm and cool voice said through the line, 'It's Viktor.' A grin passed across Belz's lips. So, Viktor Heinz needed the help of his former right-hand man once more? He tired to keep the smugness out of his voice, but only succeeded to a certain degree.
'Ah, Viktor, vat help do you need zis time? Ist zere another late strudel delivery at ze cafeteria?'
'Nein my friend, this is something much more serious. Have you seen the report about the Libertonian Diplomat yet?' Belz vaguly remembered seeing it, and told Heinz this. 'Well, we have a critical situation concerning him.' Belz immediately leant over the desk, elbows supporting his body as he listened intently.
'Vat ist it?'
'The Diplomat,' Heinz said, unable to hide his urgency, 'He never arrived at New Berlin. He's missing, Frederick. More important than a late strudel delivery?'

Viktor Heinz stood outside the tall Polizei building, the rain pouring onto him, water dripping from his hair. His coat was soaked to the bottom and he was ankle deep in rain water. He waited patiently for Frederick, listening to the Radio Traffic on his headset. Drip, Drip, Drip. He looked up and saw a leaking pipe, droplets of water slowly landing on his head. He rolled his eyes and was getting ready to leave when the Automatic doors to the building opened, and out stepped Frederick Belz. Viktor looked at him "you took your time" he yelled furiously. Belz smiled "nice to see you too" he said.
It was now nightime, Viktor and Frederick stood on the Landing pad, waiting for their ships to come out of the Equipment room. there was a strange silance in the air. Drip Drip Drip. Viktor looked up to see a corner of a building, and yet again droplets of water hit his head. He moaned and look at the engineers "Schnell schnell, get the ships ready i cant stand this rain anymore" He moaned again. Frederick smiled and asked "where are we going?" Viktor looked at him, Frederick could see the light on his communicator in his ear, a pale blue, shining from the rain on his face. "To the place his ship was last seen, and going to try and track it from there". Frederick nodded. Then the door to the Equipment room opened and out of the light came two, fully armed and repaired Polizei Patrol ships, Viktor looked at Frederick "Ready to fly with me again?"
Belz tried to resist the urge to punch Heinz in the face. "Ready to fly with me again?" Ha! He'd rather spend the rest of his life handing out Polizei recruitment pamphlets to suicidal teenagers then fly his Mjolnir with Viktor Heinz. But he didn't want to lose his position in the Polizei. Despite the fact that he had been demoted, he still had influence. So he cracked his most relaxed and convincing smile, and answered Heinz with a cheery voice.
'Vell, I may as vell mein freund, vat else vill be as exciting?' He allowed his smile to fade. It had done its work, as he could see that Heinz was now completely at ease. 'Vat are ze details?'
