I couldn't find a modelling or artwork thread:(If there is one I apologize for posting this here.

Anyhow looking at how liberty and mollies share a VHF (and some other ships for that matter) left me feeling a little disapointed. But rather than let it get me down I decided to design some ships for the Mollies (they are my fave faction). However the ships they fly in game are rather generic and not unique at all. So I kinda had to wing it on design. This is what I came up with.

Note the VHF is the ship on the LEFT. The one on the right is the beginnings of a bomber but I thought I would include it anyhow just to show how I would make the concept carry through to other ship design.

Two quarter views:

Now I'm not too sure of what kinds of design flaws one can expect when making a ship for a mod of this nature. One I'm unsure of is that the ships profile is quite small. So I took 2 quick renders of sort of mid and long distance. Please tell me if you feel the ship represents too small of a target:

Mid Distance:

Long Distance:

Anyhow, Here is a final top view:

And here starts the texture work. Currently I have done very very little, but this is the kind of texture job I'm considering. Note: the green lines and brown area's are just cause I haven't filled them yet. Tell me what you think:D

Please feel free to suggest improvements or if you feel I should change elements to make it more.. "Molly" etc.

Thanks for your time

Speaking as the Molly leader:

Umm... what?
It looks nothing like the Pirate line, and furthermore, it looks nothing like Freelancer.
Oh, it's certainly unique, but it's way too unique. It doesn't fit at all.

We're Mollies, we use the pirate line.
If you really want to make a Molly ship, base it off of that.

(Look at the Hacker LF and Bomber compared to the Borderworlds line to see a good example of basing off of a vanilla design but creating something brilliant and new.)

Although I should add that I don't think we need our own ships.
More pointless fluff to add to Discovery, and it doesn't really fit.

That, but with more vitriol.

Freelancer shapes are, for one thing, not curved.
furthermore, we really shouldn't be giving ships to specific factions. Ships need to be produced by corporations for a profit, ya?

it's a great model....but I agree....it does not seem to fit the Mollys, Bretonians, or FL

if the Mollys do get a new ship, it should have some Rogue and Bretonian influence, in my opinion

Molly ships would never have a Bretonian influence.
We do everything we can to distance ourselves from them, it's not only a revolution in the sense that we're trying to push BMM off of us and workers and out of Dublin, but we're also rebelling culturally - look at how we've adopted Celtic culture, as opposed to English.

Any Molly would violently attest that he's not Bretonian, he's a Molly.
Therefore, Bretonian influence has no place in our ships.

With all due respect there are ships from battlestar galactica in disco....

Basing it off the other pirate lines I guess doesn't really introduce anything unique at all. Recycling an old concept isn't something I'm all that into, guess the wolverine stays then as boring as it is (At least imo).

As for other ships already in Disco that dont really follow the FL kind of theme:

The imports are being phased out.

Plus, the BSG ships look damn fine for the IMG.
Don't be dissin'

What about working on some of the Civilian lines? Most of them are Homeworld imports, that are downright atrocious.

I have no problem with them at all but they don't look Freelancer at all either. Just wanted to point that out.
I dont really have an interest in making something that looks like its something else. I would want to make something different and unique. Guess I'll shelf this project then

Disco started as a shippack. In many ways, it still is, but the apparent intent has been to draw it much closer to an extension of vanilla freelancer...a lot of that involves maintaining the vanilla design style.

My opinion about that ship is what everyone else said, Just One thing caught my eyes;

erm ... Coalition Ships in Disco completely follow FL Shiptypes , They (at least Fighter/Bomber class ships) are based on the Coalition Ships shown in Vanilla Freelancer Intro. (Check the scene that Coalition launch their final attack on Pluto for example.)

So, Its true that Ravons Talon is a StarWars Import, or Virage a non-Freelancerish design, but Coalition Ships ? No.
