Hm, true. A'ight, I'll do a fast introduction then:
Sig's for my indie Corsair char, Melquiades Chubasco, flying the displayed Praetorian.
A new BPA sig, mostly for good ol' Josh Cooper, thus the Hussar.
And, finally, the sig for my Freelancer/Trader character, Frideswide "Fry" Cunny. As you can see, she's steering a Firefly (so I got a more high-quality render on my hands - our ingame Firefly doesn't look that great).
All those characters are introduced a tad more in the thread you get when you click the picture in my sig.
Now, onto the graphics part.
Those sigs basically all work the same way: you need a nice background, the ship you fly and a symbol, representing the faction. I've based them all the same way, just mirrored the fading outline for a bit more variety.
Anyways, put the render into the sig, get your ship over it and add the engine exhausts - if they aren't already there. The ones for the Corsair/BPA sig were already in the image, I just needed to edit them, so they'd fit my ship in size, colour and shape.
I made the one in the Firefly sig myself, but that was just a bit working with brushes, filters and layers. The most important thing is to look at the image from any angle and zoom in and out - once you've reached the point when you think it looks 'realistic' enough, it's done.
