I would like to start a faction but im unsure if I can just do it or if i need to make a creation request post and pay 500mill (im confused about the difference of creating official factions and unofficial ones, the creation guidelines ask whos in the faction - but if i cant create it i cant invite people to join:P)
ANYWAY - im working on the RP whilst i figure out the rules of the thing - this is my first attempt at a history, what do you think? (btw it will be an independent company)
Born in 2129 to a middle class family in the UK, Rufus Logan had a keen interest in science and technology from an early age.
A short time before his masters degree graduation in applied electronics and engineering, Rufus was approached by a recruiter for the weapons division of Cambridges leading Institute of advanced technology. He worked there for 30 years, learning the ins and outs of the weapons development and the intricacies of the many raging conflicts.
Torn apart by a moral dilemma, between an inherent fascination with advanced weapon technology and the pain of knowing that he was refining peoples ability to kill each other, he turned his research to non lethal devices.
Unimpressed by his abandonment of highly profitable, lethal weapons development Rufus was eventually dismissed from the company after many heated arguments and an outright refusal to return to his previous research.
Determined to see his new weapon ideas come to reality and perhaps even lessen the horrendous death tolls now taking place, Rufus founded his own research and development company Armocon Technologies.
Although making several ground breaking advances in various fields, the Company didnt enjoy the full success it was capable of, mainly due to Rufuss refusal to resort to the sort of aggressive profiteering that was common amongst other lethal weapon traders that Rufus despised.
Rufus Logan died 60 years later, his non lethal ideal widely scorned and his inventions largely unwanted. Leaving behind a barely profitable company which did at least own the patents to several new and highly advanced technologies.
A long time passed while Armocon quietly continued its research until it eventually merged with a heavy industry company called Imperium aeronautics to form Imperocon Industries.
The incorporation of Imperium management into their own served as a wakeup call to the Armocon board. They realized there was no place for high ideals and traditional morals. They soon turned their advanced research back onto a lethal track and were soon producing weapons that astounded their competitors.
With this merger, Armocons unique research coupled with the mass production power of Imperium allowed the new company to slowly rise up as one of the countries biggest and most advanced developer and distributor of military hardware to the alliance.
Having reached the limit of their market potential in weapons technology, Imperocon
Industries began an expansion program, buying out numerous companies including market leaders. The most notable of which occurred shortly after the program had begun when Imperocon bought out the massive Nocens conglomerate in a hostile takeover bringing whole new markets into the Imperocon domain.
Now with holdings in almost every major industry, Imperocon became one of the top six most powerful corporations in sol of the time.
What with each of the six corporations owning considerable financial interests in just about every single market and industry (either directly or through subsidiary groups) tensions and competition inevitably grew to such a pitch that eventually the Trade war began.
During this time the corporations became ruthless. Corporate HQs became fortresses with security that rivalled top military installations. Nothing was out of the question if it meant better control over the market or the weakening of another Corporation. Governmental bribes, industrial espionage, sabotage, kidnappings, there were even rumours that assassinations were considered in more than one corporate board room.
Seeing no end to the war and the road to destruction that they were all on, Vath Derothe (the CEO of Imperocon) called together the CEOs of the other leading corporations with a proposal; a merger of the three largest and most powerful corporations that existed, to form one, totally unrivalled megacorpthe Synergy Corporation. The proposal was accepted and 5 years later the merger was complete.
The Synergy Corporation had become the largest commercial entity ever formed, and within a short space of time all other competition had been smashed.
By the time Vath had retired, it was clear that the Alliance couldn't win the war.
When he heard about a group of colonists preparing to head out for the Serius sector, Vath saw a great opportunity. Using his vast influence he secured seats for himself and his family on board the Bretonia and during their long voyage he schooled his sons in the methods and skills they would need to take more than their share of this new world.
Sirius
In the decades after the Bretonia arrived in the Sirius sector, the Derothe family went about rebuilding their business empire from their new home on New London.
Newly arrived on a alien planet in an alien sector, it was clear to the derothe's that their best market opportunity was in heavy industry's such as construction and manufacturing. By A.S 15 the Synergy corporation had established several factories and worked as a key contractor for Royal Bretonian Manufacturing. In the final decade of the first century, Synergy was quick to recognize the industrial potential of the Leeds system and relocated their heavy industry there, leaving only the consumer production side of their industry on New London.
Staying mostly in heavy industry, Synergy became a major supplier of military hardware to the Bretonian armed forces, working closely with the Bretonia Mining Corporation to fed Synergy's great need for raw materials.
When the second great food crisis struck in 282, the Princess Harriet III sent out a call for the best scientific minds to travel to Cambridge to help increase crop yields. The Synergy board of directors, comfortable with the sound base they had in industry, decided it was time to diversify and so they dispatched professor Leon Lackford from the medical department of their R&D division. Whilst there he earned a reputation as a brilliant and tireless academic and so impressed the Cambridge twenty that when they founded the Cambridge institute they offered him a fellowship, where upon he handed in his resignation to Synergy and gratefully accepted.
Slightly put out by the loss of such a great scientist, but never failing to miss an opportunity, Synergy made sure they kept in frequent contact with Lackford and fostered a close relationship with the institute. While never realizing their aspirations of breaking into a food market, their relationship with institute provided invaluable in later years.
The corporation next shows up on the historical radar when its industrial heart was devastated in the riots of 317. Furious at Prince Harry for his oppressive regime that instigated the rebellion and with relatively little to loose the Derothe's decided to utilize their remaining assets on New London to help finance the rebels.
Their gamble paid off and in the aftermath of the rebellion and during the chaos
between the execution of Prince Harry and the establishment of the commonwealth the Synergy corporation not only recovered and rebuild its lost industry on Leeds but also was able to acquire significant assets for next to nothing from other corporations who had not survived the period.
Successful once again, the Synergy board of directors along with the Derothe's agreed that the threat of a similar event wreaking so much havoc on them again, was unacceptable and that if they were to have any measure of security they must diversify. So in 350 a huge expansion project was launched. Focusing mainly on interstellar trade, but also in as many other areas as possible, such as pharmaceuticals, medical supplies, and research in every field. Trade ships laden with cargo were soon heading out to Liberty space and assets were purchased in Manchester, New York, Cambridge, Newcastle, and Pennsylvania.
During the period of increased crime between the late 7th and 8th centuries Synergy experienced alarming losses from theft, piracy, embezzlement and a variety of other crimes originating from within as well as from outside the Corporation. After the murder of Sir Edward and other BMM executives in 752 the Synergy board decided to set up a new Security Division. It would be responsible for not only the internal security of employees and facilities, but also create a fleet of war ships to protect Synergy's precious trade ships from hostile forces.
Today under the ownership and leadership of William Derothe, the Synergy corporation has grown to become a major powerhouse in the trade and industry of the Bretonian sector. It's strong relationships with the Bretonian state and other corporations has fortified its economic base and allowed it to ride out the many troubled times in Bretonias history.
The trade with Liberty that began in the fourth century is becoming more and more of a significant percentage of Synergy's profit and it is keen to develop this further. Also in an attempt to diversify further, chief executives of the corporation have begun looking into the financial viability of a heavy investment in the mining industry.
Of course you can do an unofficial faction; thats how every faction is made. When you get enough peopple, good RP and a nice image then you are ready to apply for official status...but wait...
What will your ID be? Some factions get their own ID after being a long time in activity, (Hellfire Legion for example, or NovaPower Gen or something) but before you will be using a standard faction ID. IN your case I'd recommned indie trader but that will limit you to certain cargo space
EDIT: and by some I mean a really select group and on very rare ocassions
