Accidents happen, no one is infallable, including DSE unfortunately. Testing a new type of gate, or perhaps a strange cargo was brought through a normal gate, who knows.
well there is a high-rad cloud in hiroshima and the infocards say something about a failed experiment. on top of that one of the kusari corps wanted to copy tech of the ageira jumpgates in hokkaido i think.. maybe they could have landed on their faces while trying so.
this could be an area for all Reaseach ID ppl to RP with, maybe add a station near the gate write lots of rumers in the bar and mission to kill "grave diggers" and maybe enemy house faction fighte for the controll of the site and maybe some kidnap attemt on the lead reasearcher, which lead to hiring many privte security, and lots of spying too:laugh:am talking "James Bond" like....:unsure:
On another note, I would love to see more wrecks floating around in far off systems, or in system corners which are not so frequently visited.
The approach on wrecks in Gallia are pretty cool. Large capital vessels dead in the water, lifeless hulls being witnesses of the past. Now imagine and old pilgrim liner floating in a nebula and the flashing flashes of the cloud illuminate the creepy ship.....Event Horizon comes to mind.
A pity we cant make wrecks spinning around a bit for the creepy atmosphere.
There are so many things that make you go "WTF" in disco already (hostile jumpgate lets you dock while shooting you, nomad thruster sold in kappa and a few more) that people wouldnt understand it as an easteregg unless its really really obvious.
On second thought... dont put a VW bus.

Make your jumpgate lead into a system filled with level 1 admin faction npc starfliers. Make them drop admin guns, but no place to dock and no way out.
What'd be cool is if there were a lot of systems that had no value for trade routes (IE: unconnected to anything else) that are big, mostly empry (occasional zoner or pirat base) and generaly just add stuff to explore fore.
Prehaps have wreckes scatterd around that contain random RPcargo items, but have the stuff not be TOO rare so as to not make it a place to farm just for the sake of selling.
If anyone remembers the Texas Incident with the Super jumpgate getting "Destroyed" we could say that it actually caused some sort of space-time rift and majority of the gate itself was spewed through time, taking along with it debris from the station and creating a Radiation cloud around it, much similar to what happened in Texas.
