Robert D'Souza moved down the wards to the medical bay, in his flight suit. The recent battles had been fierce, and the Admiral's face was grim. He quickly seeked out the room he needed, and was stopped by guards. The first gaurd placed his hand upon the Admirals chest, and spoke with a gruff voice:
"Can we help you?"
Robert glared at the offender, but said nothing.
The gaurd noticed the Admirals rank insignia, and jumped back.
"Sir.. Um.. We didn't realize..."
"Get out of here" He said coldly and moved into the room.
"Yes sir, right away sir." The guards hurried away, faces flushed with embarrassment.
The medical bay was as usual, filled with people. Injured pilots, dying pilots, all lay there fighting for their lives. The fight never ended. The young ex-corsair quickly moved down the line of beds, searching for a number, D-1345. He found it, and found a woman lying on the bed, her face hidden by her auburn hair. "Looks familiar" thought Robert.
A doctor was attending to her, Robert looked in his direction inquiringly.
The doctor, a young, 30-something man with dark hair turned to Robert matter-of-factly, and began to speak. "She is stable, and will not be 'leaving' us anytime soon. If you wish, I can wake her up now."
He just nodded, and took a seat beside the bed.
The doctor nodded in response, and brought up a small, pen-shaped syringe from his belt. Bending over the woman, he placed the injector on her neck, on her jugular vein. The doctor pressed the button on the top of the syringe, and the womans eyes flickered open.
Robert folded his arms, and smiled gently. "Welcome to the land of the living" he said quietly.
[18:36:53] Scotty/The Demoman/Jack Ryan: The woman looked around for a moment, and spotted Robert, smiling at him, she began to speak. "Thank you."
Robert was startled by her voice, it sounded oh-so familiar, and he was jostled and pushed into old memories, and a woman with Auburn hair....
"I missed you." The woman spoke again. her hazel eyes glistening in the cold lights of the ward.
He was startled out of his thought, and he couldn't believe it. His mouth went open, and his eyes just bulged. Truely, he looked comical in that moment. The woman involuntarily giggled, but quickly controlled herself.
"Katie....." He groaned. days of suffering, days of searching, and days of grief were brought at last to a close.
"Robert." Katies eyes were glazed with tears that were on the verge of escaping her eyes.
He took a moment to glance at the Doctor, who was looking at them with mild amusement.
[18:46:57] Scotty/The Demoman/Jack Ryan: The doctor noticed Roberts eyes stabbing into him like daggers, and immediately his grin vanished from his face.
"Move her into a secure room, she is an important Comrade" he said coldly.
"Yes sir." The doctors confident tone had dissapeared, and quickly he called over two orderlies, who took Katie to a more private room. The Admiral waited, and followed as they moved his life along, and he had an absent minded grin on his face. As they arrived at the new ward, and Katies bed was slotted into place, Katie looked at Robert again, a smile on her face.
The young man looked at Katie accusingly. "You nearly killed me."
"Oh yeah? Wait until I tell you about what happened to me." Katie winked at Robert, and spoke in a more saddened tone. "I thought I was gonna die back there."
He just looked, and folded his arms, sitting near her, waiting for the tale.
"You remember when we were going to meet on Freeport 1?" Katie asked, rolling onto her side to see Robert better.
"How can I forget?"
"I was kidnapped." Katie said. Sighing at the memory.
"What!?"
"An old enemy of mine, from my teenage years, she sent her goons to get me once she figured out I was back."
He shook his head sadly, and looked at her.
"I was walking toward the hanger bay, when I saw your crow come out of the lanes when some big bruiser grabbed me, before 2 more goons came out with a sack and handcuffs." "I dont remember much about the journey to Bretonia, I was knocked out I think. Not with drugs, with a beating to the head."
Robert clenched his fist. "I will take care of them..." he started hotly...
Katie smiled gently. "Thats what I like about you. Anyway, when I came round, I was in this, foul-smelling, rotten cell, tied to a chair." "Then my 'old enemy' came in. She got me to remember who she was, and gave me a slap, and I tell you, I never been smacked that hard in my life."
"She left after that, and after a few hours of solitude I managed to undo the restraints on my wrists. Just in time for one of the big guys who grabbed me in the first place to walk in. Big ugly guy he was, no teeth left almost." "He said the 'boss' said he could have 'a little fun with me'." Katie shivered at the thought, revolted.
The Admiral punched his fist against the wall, and grunted as it hit the smooth metal surface.
"Don't do that. It's alright, the moment that fat bastard got his face close enough to me, I snapped his god-damn neck."
Robert grinned.
Katie grinned back, winking at Robert. "I took the guys pistol, and got my legs free. I took cover beside the open door, and soon enough the other two kidnappers spotted the dead body. I took care of them when they tried to come through, kicked one guy in the crotch as he came in, span out and shot the other, before finishing off the guy I booted in the jimmies." Katie laughed at the memory.
"That's my girl!"
Katie smiled at Robert.
"Unfortunately, the complex they had me in was really maze-like, and I was wandering around for hours... Until my old enemy Paula caught up with me. Took me by surprise."
"She was a hell of a fighter, I'll give her that... But it wasnt long before I had her. It was hard. Killing her I mean." Katie sighed. "We were best friends for a long time, she saved my ass plenty. But what she did was too wrong. I handed her in, 'betrayed' her. And now I had to kill her."
Robert nodded, he understood.
"Once it was done, I found a way out. Turns out they had built a complex in the sewers, so I came out a manhole." "It took me a long time to find any sort of civilization. But when I did, I found a good little ship dealer." Katie smiled.
"So you made it back."
"Barely." Katie grinned. "That little flea was already in bad shape, but a cross-sirius journey and a few attacks didnt help any. You had proof of that earlier."
"I did" and with that, he looked into her eyes for a long time....
Katie laid her head on the pillow, exhausted from the trip to Minor, and the battle to prevent her little starflier from exploding when she arrived.
"A lot has happened since you left."
"I can tell. Admiral." Katie said, grinning.
"Nothing has changed"
"Heh. I take it I lost some rank by getting kidnapped? 'Conduct unbecoming an Order Agent' They'll say." Katie winked.
"I wouldn't know. But why worry? You are here, and you are safe...."
"I'm sorry I made you worry about me." Katie said, looking at Robert, she pretended to put on her 'puppy eyes' as the Libertonians called it.
"You dont give me that!"
The Doctor returned, confidence creeping back into his voice.
"Ms. MacDonald should rest now Admiral, she's had a rough few months."
Robert looked at the doctor coldly, but nodded, and left the room, giving Katie a wave as he left.
Katie waved back, but immediately she was obscured from view as several Doctors and Nurses swarmed her bed.
