Watch that vid carefully. I'm not even sure I saw what I saw O.O but basically Blizzard is really taking Sc2 to the next level and has set the bar at an all time high. This map editor is the bombshell and has split sc2 from a rts, into a fps and what was that last part???? That type of gaming is so old it's probably older then me! The designers of Sc2 beta have really outdone themselves in my opinion but yeah this is all still beta and I want to know what you all think...
Pretty Much
Lots of Possibilities with it. but by the looks of it its a full mod tool set.
We can finnaly have actual custom units instead of custom stats only.
Truth to be told could have had custom units in WC3 too, except that you had to tinker a bit deeper beyond the map editor features. So SC2 just takes that further and makes more things moddable, not just custom maps.
Personally I'm more interested whether we'll be able to link maps together in multi-player this time, i.e. multi-player campaigns consisting of several maps. Cause that was one of the major drawbacks back in WC3 when creating vast RPG-style maps and you had to work with a very restrictive and limited environment and had to use every square of map space and tileset effectively.
I actually have the editor myself but I haven't touched it yet, I will tomorrow. I will see how far my mediocre skills can take me in terms of map creating with this editor. I watched another reveiw where as one of the commentators actually got a chance to look at it breifly and he claimed it to be a bit hard to figure out the controls so we will see, I actually had an idea like that too Treewyrm, having multiple maps and being able to make campaigns like that ect ect. So I can't wait to see what my testing brings...
