Because it's obvious that some people have a problem with Eva's Siege Cruiser, let me share with you something.
I don't like it.
[color=#66FFFF]When I saw it pop up, I was this close to instantly submitting a sanction request. Im more unhappy about this than I was about Lafiel's capture, and then I was pretty angry. Pretty damn angry. There was one reason I didn't, we'll get on to that later.
There was rage in the high command chat. A lot of it, and all of it mine.
But you know what? We trust people like Joe to run the server, but we don't trust him to give someone a chance at a cruiser in roleplay? Are you people out of your minds? Don't you trust his judgement? I grilled his ass on the subject of this cruiser, but all of us in the High Command chat (and I mean, Liberty Forces, not just Navy) that responded to him are satisfied with his assessment. Its a risky policy, but you really think there isn't a plan? Come on, you're playing us for fools here.
Joe on skype Wrote:[21:40:15] Joe (Jihad): Situation in easy steps...
1. Joe finds that a cruiser has randomly ended up in a junkers hands.
2. Joe finds out how.
3. Joe decides to be nice and let someone run with this roleplay despite not liking it that much himself.
4. Joe gets yelled at by discovery for being "That prick who let someone have a good time"
5. Joe gets mindblowingly angry.
[21:41:11] Joe (Jihad): we're on step five.
Let's also take a look at Joe's critera for these roleplay scenarios:
Joe on skype again Wrote:1. Do I regard you as a person to be responsible enough to use it without being a dick?
2. The roleplay quality/quantity. (THIS IS A VERY SECONDARY CONCERN!!!!)
Now there is one reason I didnt instantly throw the toys out of the pram and submit a sanction request.
I respect Joe.
And so should you lot.
He is the best guy around here for many cyber miles, better than the vast majority in this community. He doesn't get angry often, so you jarheads better take note when he does get angry.
You folks keep asking for more freedoms and yet you crap on any freedoms given when they're not yours.
Give me a break, man up and get on with your lives.
So today I got home from work at about 9pm, which isn't unusual really, but I'll just give a little context because I know you all like it... Anyway. Upon arriving home having been out all night last night I discover a thread dedicated to telling the people involved in the RP between Eva McDowell and David Hale that they're stupid and they suck.
I don't really mind people calling me stupid, or telling me I'm wrong. It happens a lot, partially because I'm sometimes stupid and wrong. But what bugs me about this is people have totally failed to see the reasons I'm involved in this. So I thought I'd make it clear to you.
I was presented with a situation which was inherently uncomfortable for my character. The theft of a cruiser. Bad times for the admiral, yeh? Yeh.
I thought "Hmm... this RP seems to have a slightly shaky basis" so I checked out what was up with the other party involved. Had a pleasent conversation infact. Despite the fact I still regarded the RP as being a little shaky and lacking context, realism and a few other things, I thought I'd run with it and try to roleplay a good situation out of it for my character. This may come as a shock to various people.
I roleplayed attempting to reinstall a navy crew on the ship by negotiating with the person who 'stole' it. Theree are reasons for doing this in roleplay. They are very simple.
Cruisers are expensive. Best not to blow them up.
The potential for ending up with useful information.
Non-violent resolution.
I could list a few more reasons, but I'd start to get boring and I'd hate to do that.
So... Having made my decision to run with the RP despite the fact I wasn't entirely comfortable with it, and made a decision to do it non-violently, I started negotiation. This is the point at which I went off to work and didn't come back for a day or so...
While I was gone, a few people seemed to pass judgement on the whole situation. People who are not directly involved. They also misread the situation entirely.
Hale is not saying "yeh, sure keep the cruiser you took". He is saying "I want that cruiser back under naval control. Here is a non violent way of achieving that".
Now... Is my will to humour a fairly harmless and innocuous bit of RP that doesn't have any huge affect on anyone outside of a very few somehow flawed?
I'm shocked by the level of anger and Q_Q this little sideline RP caused. It might not be to your taste. It's not actually to mine either. But I'm not too happy about being yelled at for letting someone have some fun. Especially if that fun doesn't change anything for anyone.
Furthermore, I don't know why anyone is angry at me for attempting to roleplay a favurable solution to a situation I was just presented with one day. That confuses me. What was I supposed to do? Go and whinge about it on the forum? Or give a brief RP "lolno" responce and go blow it up fourteen times? What good would either of those have achieved? Nobody would have had any fun as a result of either of those.
Both of those are done all the time. I wouldn't have found it amusing to blow the ship up. I'm sure Eva wouldn't have found it as fun as the current situation.
Nobody would have had any fun if I'd run around complaining about it. So I just put my head down and got on with the RP of the situation.
If that makes me a lesser human then that's cool. I may not agree with the RP situation, and infact I find it implausible and a little bit silly, but my veiwpoint isn't the be-all and end-all. I'm willing to compromise my veiwpoint of the RP of the server if it means more people have fun. What's the crime in that?
I trust and respect Joe's judgement, but unfortunately Joe isn't the only admin on the server. As has been said numerous times, it's not the fact that Eva got the cruiser so much as it is the fact that other people are getting perfectly legitimate requests denied.
Do I like the fact that she got the cruiser? No. But that's not the point. What's done is done in that regard. If anything we need more admins like Joe, rather than the whole "No u can has" trend that's been going around for the past year or more.
