So I've been getting this a bunch lately and I'd like some clairification from the peanut gallery or the admins. Almost every time I attack people, wether trader ar police or other(I'm a corsair ) they give me this "you didnt warn me, I'm going to report you." Now being that I havent been sanctioned, I am assuming that my interpretation of the rules is correct, which is that as a pirate I must demand money or cargo before I destroy a trader...but I can do as much damage as I want before asking for payment. Thats for traders, but when it gets to factions that are against you in RP, It is my understanding that you dont have to give ANY warning before attacking someone who is an RP enemy of yours. Now everytime I get this "you didnt give me warning enjoy your sanction" I respond with "report me it wont come to anything I'm not worried" Now my question is where do people get the idea that I have to tell them before I attack them? WHY WOULD I TELL SOMEONE BEFORE I ATTACK THEM, THATS JUST CRAZY!!!!!!!???????
thanks
Quote:7.13 Pirates and terrorists have a right to deal as much damage as they see fit before or after demanding money from a trader ship, but killing trader ship before demanding money is not allowed. Attacking traders or demanding cargo is not allowed for cruisers and battleships, unless cruisers and battleship belong to Terrorist ID or Phantom ID owner.
Covers the piratey bit ...
The other part ... Well if you are a pirate, and you are attacking the defending lawful forces, why would
let them know that you are coming ? RP enemies are just that ... ENEMIES.
People seem to be getting the wrong end of the stick again, or probably trying it on so you don't attack.

I'm pretty much completely positive you're in the right Zelot, but you should probably wait for an admin's post. I've been wrong many times before.... I ain't going to pretend I know everything, because that's no-where near the truth.
the only situation where a proper warning "might" be done is - when its a player faction, that is - custom ID. a corsair gives me a very clear picture of what to expect. but when i see "novaPG" or "asgard warriors" ID, i don t really know what thats about. at least not untill the first encounter.
but like it was said before - you can attack anyone as a pirate - given you made sure that you scanned the ID - which happens without the target knowing you did though. you can basicly shoot a trader down to 1% untill you ask him for a tax ( which would come in handy when its about their willingness to pay ) - but you must not kill him without asking - so then again, shooting him down to 1% might be a bit of a gamble.
anyway - when i m trading, and i see a pirate it usually rather surprises me when i can pass without problems. cause i EXPECT a pirate to - well pirate me. otherwise they could just be navy and hang around chatting ( no offence to navy - lol )
Right, my take on things. The rules state that you can deal them as much damage as you like and then ask for money, but you can not kill them. If the die before you ask for money, then you're going to have a problem. Now, as for the RP enemy. You can be a Corsair and the other can be a Bretonian trader, but you still have to ask for money first before killing. Why? Because its a transport...

Server rules before RP mate.
And just to confuse the issue, here's something I've brought up once before...
Quote:7.2 All PvP/RP rules listed below in section 7 are void in the following situations:
- Self-defense - level 30 limit is not active; - Attacker and defender belong to two NPC factions that are at war (Kusari vs Bretonia, Outcasts vs Corsairs, House vs local pirates) - level 30 limit is active;
- Attacker and defender belong to two server factions that are at war (officially declared) - level 30 limit is active.
- In systems belonging to server factions and in Connecticut - level 30 limit is not active;
So this would mean that a House-aligned trader (such as an BAF or BMM tagged trader) is technically "at war" with any pirate factions specific to that House (such as the Mollys).
Traders is not the problem, I know the rule on that one, I always ask before destroying a trader, the incedent today was with a AW taged fighter, this faction has made it known to me that I am kill on sight. If there are people who are KOS that means there are situations when you can kill without warning. If I am kill on sight to a faction, you can be damned sure their members are going to be killed on sight by me. But the larger question, excluding traders, can you attack without warning a combat ship of an RP enemy or NPC enemy ( does a generic tagged corsair have to warn a generic tagged outcast). An admin response would help clarify.
thanks
PS Drake brings up a good point. In an RP sense, what would be more important for...lets say a Molly (as I have no molly chars, I can be impartal) getting a tax from a trader bringning engine parts to southampton, or stopping those ship parts from getting to southampton to be used in Britonia military ships?
The pirating of traders is covered. My take on the attacking your enemy, in real life your not going to say anything and give up any chance of surprise and any advantage you may get from it. But this is a game, not real life, and if I am going to attack someone I will say something first. Especially if they are involved with other players or fighting NPC's. Most people will do the same for me, say something like "Get outta here Rogue" , or "Surrender criminal or die", etc. Do you have to say anything to non-traders, no, dont see anything in the rules except for the level limit. When I see someone with a red or white tag to me I am always suspicious, even a green tag for a moment till I can see the ID. I have been caught off guard though and it is frustrating, nothing like starting a battle off by getting hammered before you know whats going on, but that is my fault and I dont hold it against the other player. To me kiilling someone who maybe afk or non-attentive is not a "good' kill, and I will not attack "full bore" without some sort of verbal or at least a shot to ding the shield to get there attention.
