Sgt. John Shepard walked through one of the many
corridors and passages that make up the interior of
the Isis. Slung across his shoulder was a black duffel
bag that contained a few clothes and the few personal
possessions he had. His face held a blank expression
that seemed to conceal something deep beneath it.
John paused at the end of the passage before a large
reinforced door. He opened the hatch and stepped
into the Battleship's fighter bay. John surveyed the
various Nephthys class fighters and Sekhmet class
bombers being serviced by Order engineers. He
walked over to the far side of the hanger where a
small number of bastets where lined up. He was glad
to see that the equipment he ordered hadnt raised
any red flags. He checked the boxes that surrounded
his ship, in them were various such as a small armories
worth of weapons, about a months supply of rations,
upgrades to his bastets stealth systems and several
pieces of prototype and experimental tech. Most of
the tech he had to liberate himself but he wasnt
worried about reprisal, he would be gone soon enough
and it was unlikely he would return..
John thoughts went back to why he was doing this all;
he was sacrificing his whole future in The Order because
of a message from one of his contacts he had keeping
an eye on his family, his sister in particular. After she
had escaped from the Isis, a lot of people were still
trying to figure out how; she had attempted to resume
working for the Liberty Navy as a pilot but quickly
became outspoken about how the Order were not
terrorists, why couldnt she just lay low.. Soon after
she got into a fight with a LSF pilot, which resulted in
her being branded a traitor. After she escaped, she
disappeared and hasnt been heard from again..
John shook his head clear his mind, it wouldnt do any
good to sit and sulk. He started loading up his bastet.
"Though I fly through the valley of death, I shall fear no evil.
For I am 80,000 feet and climbing."
-------------------------
Freisener ,shuffling through the corridors, saw a familiar face. John shepard, with an interesting expression on his face. Something is not right he thought.
He walked beside him, and nudged him with his hand. How are you doing John? he said, features calm and expressionless.
John paused from his work and looked at freisner with a blank expression.
"Fine" he said "Is something wrong?" A small hint annoyance flashed on Johns face.
"Though I fly through the valley of death, I shall fear no evil.
For I am 80,000 feet and climbing."
-------------------------
John looked at the back, and considered how long it would take to put
the rest of the containers onto his bastet. "maybe" he said carefully.
"could you help me this onto my ship?" He moved over to one side of a rather large equipment box.
"Though I fly through the valley of death, I shall fear no evil.
For I am 80,000 feet and climbing."
-------------------------
"Thanks Freisner". John grabbed another box and loaded it onto the ship.
As he went to pick up another box he paused and looked at Freisener,
"Have you ever felt like you had to do the wrong thing in order to do the right thing?"
"Though I fly through the valley of death, I shall fear no evil.
For I am 80,000 feet and climbing."
-------------------------
Hmm? He said. No, the right thing is the right thing, and it's undisputable, and your own choice as to what is right and what is wrong. Always do the right thing boy. Always. He said, smiling a little.
He shook his head. Work beckons. Good luck with these. He gave a short nod and turned, to leave the hangar. He had almost left it when, stricken by some doubt, he turned and waved at John, before going.
