Two computers.
You can't run two FL clients at the same time on the same computer, even in windowed mode. The moment the mousefocus moves out of one client window, it will stop updating the display in that window, making it unusable to play.

Yes, with VirtualBox, it doesn't run because of lacking 3d capabilities. However you can have the server and one client on the same physical machine by running the server in a VM.

Thats not necessary. You can easily run FL_Server and one client on the same box. No need for a VM running either in that scenario.
You can use multiple instances of FL at the same time. (I have had 5 running without any FPS hindrance)
While the display will not update, that may not be important depending on the reason for using multiple instances.
That said, it's up to you to work it out. The potential for abuse if used in Disco is something best kept as low as possible.

How is this possible? I've tried it and when I want to start a second instance, with the first one running in window mode or fullscreen, it doesn't start up.
