Hi,

I've been looking around the tutorials how to open a Freelancer's existing model in an editor. There are 3 interesting types of files in the SHIPS directory: cmp, 3db and sur. I guess cmp is the one I want to open, or better say import. I've downloaded MilkShape and it doesn't seem to be able to import any of these extensions.

Is it possible to import an existing model? And to Blender? How? Thanks for any help..

You need the FLMT package (Freelancer Modding Tool). It has a version of Milkshape with all the plugins. Download it here.

Modelling for FL isn't very straightforward, regretfully. There are a lot of steps...

Milkshape.
Milkshape CMP import.

That will let you import the game models.

However to do actual modelling work, use a program other than milkshape. Just export the models as .3ds or something and import them to your program.

the CMP importer and exporter are plug-ins which don't come with your standard copy of Milkshape and must be downloaded.

When exporting, make sure you're using CMP exporter V0.3

Also note that some versions of Milkshape don't work with the CMP importer, but most work with the exporter.
