Right, I will go first then :D
I noticed Black Sails ossie getting involved in every fighter fight where Sairs are already controling and wining the fight. I don't see need for attacking 3,4 fighters with solaris ossie when they are already 5,6 friendly fighters owning them. It creates big overkill and gank and it leaves bad taste after battle.
so blue, you had a 10 minute interaction, and 4 seconds after you agree to pay, one of you dies? (6-7 minutes after the demand)
if it was me, you would be poof a long time ago. no 'zoner bias' here - it was too long. you waste a pirate's time, you die. simple as that. if you feel the issue being somehow idiotic, pm me on skype and we can talk about it (tomorrow, preferably).
in short : you were slow - no discussion here - i saw the logs with timestamps
Yes, I know all about the "don't wait too long" bit. That part is reserved for players who want credits and are afraid that their traders will stall for time. Good roleplayers could care less about credits and you guys are representing a faction with a very rich RP history (OPG, Sparta & Ivan legacy). And while RP can easily involve shooting a guy for "taking too long," you ought to know full well that there's a lot more player interaction in dialogue. And I don't mean happy go lucky chit-chat. Good pirate RP involves both long, ruthless dialogue and ruthless pew-pew.
Here's another thing. This is a borderline engagement notice violation. Not to say that it's sanctionable - but you guys cut it close. The traders said "four million," the pirate said, "I'm going to ask my pal."
When you did that you created an ambigious situation. You made it sound like you would consider it, and if not, then request ten million or die.
Instead, you said "I'm going to ask my pal..nah, it's still ten million" and then you started shooting. Even casual players say "2 mil or die." That way the other players understands the pirate wants the money right away. You made no effort to appear that you were in a rush. Vito was still engaged in RP dialogue when Trojan.Herald got blown up, which shows me that you were in mid dialogue roleplay.
Just to let you guys know where I'm comming from: I'm comparing your performance to guys like Sparta, Ivan, and Akura as well as a bunch of "no-names" that you've probably never heard about. I myself have pirated and been pirated plenty of times in a much better fashion. You guys can do better. And that's all I'm going to say.
Now I am going to respond. Both as a former Corsair leader, a long time disco player, and for a time, one of the most notorious pirates on the server (Oh those were the days.)
First, You cant really expect the Corsairs to be nice to you folk right now, especially not the Omicronies. They are going to hit you and they are going to hit you hard, and talk of coming back to pay later is just ridiculous. Second, and this is one of my big pet peeves,

This really pisses me off. You try to use a non-existent rule to smear the name of a faction, and I think its out of line. No where in the rules does it say that someone must give an engagement notice, not once. It does say you must rp before an engagement, and as is clear from the screen shots you posted, that standard was met, not only in a minimal way. This kind of comment really makes me sick, you sit there and lecture someone on the rules, tell them that they were on the borderline of breaking a rule, put that in their feedback thread for everyone to see, yet the rule you are accusing them of breaking does not exist. I would think a player who calls on the rules as often as you would have a better knowledge of them... or you are knowingly trying to make them look bad, but I will assume the former on that one.

That is the right of every pirate on the server. It's one of the foundations of good pirate rp. You lure in the sucker and then punch up the price when they cant get away. Even better when they are from a group that has been involved in a conflict with you for several weeks. They dont want to pay up quick, you bet that pirate is going to send a message to all your buddies by taking you out. Pirates are tricky and deceptive, and it seems from your complaints that they did exactly what they were supposed to. Oh, as to "Good rpers dont care about credits" thats bull, good rpers care about what their characters care about, if their character cares about credits, as pirates do, then you better damn well believe their rp should include caring about credits. So yes, good rpers care about credits. Its people who dont rp pirates so well who dont care about credits.

You seem to have a really spotty memory. I find it funny when people refer to people of the past with this sort of reverence and completely forget the massive forum whinging of when it took place. I was there, I remember all the sanction reports and the rule lawyers and the angry Zoners, not one of them wanted to complement the OPG on their rp. It wasn't until people realized that the OPG didn't care about that, that people even started to consider them as rpers. For so long, OPG was undeservingly referred to as lolwuts, but now we can point to them as a shining example...when we can use that to try and make a point to put someone else down. Aside from that, groups are different people are different and groups rp change over time, as we can clearly see from the rp of so many factions here in disco. (FARMERS IN LEEDS!!!!!!!) This suggestion that there is a way to rp something is, sadly below your grade level. You can do better. And that's all I'm going to say.

Since we are being honest, 10 million credits or die?
Oh yes, and the [OPG] were quite horrid, especially to independents they "had" to "pirate".
Also, people confuse the need for "written RP beforehand" with "engagement notice". Slight difference, but eh.
In short, BlueSpawn should not complain.
The reason being is not so much his point is invalid, as, this is the Sails|, and you should know exactly what to expect out of them both in an RP and OoRP perspective.
Feel free to request that we go back to politically correct statement's where we dance around the issue, if you want.
That was written, and pinned, on October 9th of 2009. In other words, it's been up there now for MORE than a FULL YEAR. There is no slight difference, as you so casually toss out there.
Quote:All attacks must be the result of some form of role play. : This means that there must be some sort or kind of role play prior to an attack. There are bare minimums, with almost no maximums. There does not have to be a clear notice of intent to open fire as long as there is sufficient role-play prior to the attack. Pirates going after traders can't just say "Halt" and if the person doesn't, start blasting away.
Zelot was quite correct in his commentary, and BlueSpawn incorrect in his rule interpretation. There was nothing borderline about it. There was more than adequate role-play. A demand had been made. Negotiations were underway, the trader was being uncooperative, the pirates rendered it a moot point.

Back then, I actually had a trader. I used the Cambridge to Omicron Theta route. I got pirated by the OPG, they were like any other pirate. I don't see how they were worse or better than any other and I certainly don't see how this is related to the Sails, most old-school OPG'ers have left. Some are still around, yes, but many have left including their leader. Of course, you will say this to support your non-existent argument.
Oh and yes, I'm sure the Sails would throw you a long dialogue of how they are going to steal your money instead of actually coming off as aggressive and fast-demanding towards a faction they are practically at war with. So don't pull that "10 mil or die" bullshi* because they aren't supposed to have tea with you and talk about the weather. They are supposed to extort you with speed and aggressiveness. If I was a Sails character I would be paranoid that any second now my enemies of war would send allies to help them, I wouldn't waste a second on chatter, just steal the money and economically cripple them the best way I can.
' Wrote:Also, people confuse the need for "written RP beforehand" with "engagement notice". Slight difference, but eh.
Haha, no. You don't need to directly say that you are going to shoot somebody, it has been clearly written in the engagement rule that this is the case. Asking a demand, and the other party not fulfilling it in reasonable time and/or being witty about it, gets you killed. That's a clear engagement notice. If you can't see it, then you need to re-read the rule explanation for 5.2.

I guess when you got nothing really to say, that's essentially what you are going to say.
Now n00bl3t, come and throw me another round of nonsensical dabble packed with tasteless irony and valueless arguments!
