Progress on the variant stabilizer is moving...well...
slower than expected. We assumed this would take
no longer than three weeks to put together but it seems
we have miscalculated. Going into our eighth week now
and we finally got the thing running. Our first three
experiments killed the host. We are not sure exactly
why but we believe it may have something to do with the
power cell we are using to run the machine. The current
power cell has been used since at least 790 A.S if not
earlier. Either way we are going to have to procure a
new one, which is not going to be easy.
Janko said it could take up to 6 months to find one...it
looks like we are going to have to continue to run the
experiments for the time being. All in all we have made
little progress and our investors are threatening to cut our funds, we
cant allow that to happen! Lane said she knew someone who
could find us a Nomad power cell...I'm not sure
what to think of that, tempering with Nomad artifacts
could lead to the infestation of us all and I'm not sure
yet if I am willing to risk that...not just yet...not just
yet...

It has been over three months since my last log, I have
been far too busy to keep track of my logs so this will
be a back up log on the past three months...
No progress was made with the old power cell, all hosts
were killed and we were unable to procure any samples.
Our investors threatened to cut our money if we did not
have any substantial evidence within 3 weeks time. It
was time, it seemed, to take Lane up on her offer. We
asked her the price...Lets just say it was more than I
had made almost my entire life...We went to our investors
but they were not pleased. I promised them results
if they allowed us to money for the Nomad Power Cell and
finally they agreed.
With the money in hand I greeted Lane
and we had our agreement. The delivery took only three
days, we installed it with complete success and were ready
to commence our first experiment with the new cell. When
we powered up the machine we were surprised that nothing
strange happened...we were expecting at least some
change but everything was exactly as it should be. We
placed the woman in the converter and pressed the button.
The door slammed shut and the machine began to purr. It
took thirty seven hours for the process to be complete,
half of the time it took for the previous power cell. We
opened the door with great anticipation. What we saw, was
indescribable...like nothing the world had ever seen
before.
We have done it, we have successfully made a Nomad
Hybrid, a sentient being! Ten years of my life dedicated
to this project had finally payed off. Since the creation
of the first Hybrid Nomad we have been simply trying to
control it, trying to harness its powers and make it bend
to our will. The substantial advantages we could have over
the other houses will make all this work worth while but
it could be quite a long time before we have full control
of the subject. For the time being we have had very little
contact with the subject but she has spoken to us in rather
rough, short, choppy sentences and flashes of what we call
"Walking Dreams". We are not exactly sure what these dreams
mean but we assume it must be some form of communication. I
will continue to track the developments of the subject as
she progresses.

On September 13th 800 A.S. our transports were attacked by a
group of Lane Hackers known as "The Hellfire Legion". They
have stolen all of our research, all of our technology, everything. Ten years of research all for nothing. The
government has decided to cut all funding and close our
department. I guess I am out of the job. I will, however, not
give up. I am going to one way or another procure another
subject to proceed with my research. In the mean time I am
going to study the Nomads as much as possible. I plan on buying
myself a Deep Space Explorer and studying everything I can
about these creatures. I hope to record my findings as soon as
possible.

While flying through New York today I saw the most peculiar thing
I have seen in a long time. I saw a, what must have been, very young
Nomad. I say it must have been very young because it was calm.
There was an order pilot near by, and we engaged in conversation.
Order: Hail Doctor.
Dr. Fresner: Hail Order!
Dr. Fresner: Oh my god a Nomad!
Order: Yes, I suggest you not get too close.
Dr. Fresner: I haven't seen a Nomad this close up in so long! This is
absolutely amazing!
Order: This particular Nomad is almost always very passive in its
interactions with humans.
Dr. Fresner: Why is that?
Order: Well it must be a very young Nomad.
Dr. Fresner: I see, in all my years of research I have never
encountered a Nomad like this
Order: Well you must not have come across very many live Nomads then.
Dr. Fresner: No, only one...and it wasn't your typical Nomad.
Order: I see, well these types of Nomads are generally very passive.
I have never gotten this close to a live Nomad in the wild before!
We chatted for a bit longer and I got all the pictures I needed and
departed.
Behavioral note: Young Nomads seem very passive, they may attack it
seems, as they had weapons, but my guess would be only when attacked.
After some time two more young Nomads appeared and they congregated
together, odd to so many together in the New York system I couldn't
believe it. And for me to be able to get so close was absolutely
amazing!
Hopefully I will be able to record more behavior such as this in
the future.

I had another run in with a young Nomad today. I learned today
that these Nomads are called "Morphs". Apparently, all Morphs
act in much the same manner, they are all very docile. It is
very interesting that these Nomads allow humans to get so close.
I was able to engage in what could be called "communication" today.
It was not much, it was about as much as a Hybrid...The only
difference being that a Hybrid's speech makes a lot more sense...
This Morph was very confusing but showed the ability to communicate
thoughts through images even at this young age. This encounter
today showed me that Nomads are born with some basic abilities such
as telecommunication and the ability to telepathically share images.
I will tag and name each Morph I come in contact with to try and keep
track of them easier. This Morph is name Ka'Rena
Dr. Fresner: Ka'Rena...Interesting
Ka'Rena: Light-less (Curious) -ours-(?)
Dr. Fresner: Where are you from?
Ka'Rena: (Confusion) Define(?)
Dr. Fresner: Home?
Ka'Rena: Ours Home(?)
Dr. Fresner: Yours home?
Ka'Rena: Awaiting return elder.lair
Dr. Fresner: Elder lair?
Ka'Rena: (Image of a nomad 'base' of a lair and a city sphere)
Dr. Fresner: Most interesting...Others?
Ka'Rena (With many 'elder' nomad fighters and capital ships)
Dr. Fresner: Other 'Morphs'?
That is when the Morph left. Most peculiar creatures, these Morphs.
I hope to have more encounters in the future to further study these
interesting creatures.
