I love the systems in Disco.... but they are all done on the one plane, more or less in the middle of the system 'box'.
I once played on a server running mod where a number of the systems didn't conform to the 'standard' layout.
They had Trade Lanes that went UP and DOWN, planets and asteroid stations that were vertical to the 'normal' plane used, a lot like the Zoner station in Baffin(?).
It would be interesting and a change from our 'normal' Systems.
the standard layout is used because the system map is only 2D,
additionally we can say that real solar systems are also "2D", because of planets and asteroids are located more or less in the ecliptic plane.

Your information comes from....?
Yes, I know that planets are located more or less in the ecliptic plane..... in the real universe.
In the Freelancer/Disco universe, who knows what is possible. ;)
We (typically) try to conform to at least vaguely-realistic physics.. Thus, planets and asteroid fields are generally on an elliptical plane. Bases and the like are sometimes not always, but generally bases are built around planets or in fields, meaning they are likewise on the elliptical plane.
' Wrote:No please, it's hard to find anything located 100k from sun and 70k above the plane, no thanks.
Yes, I know some things are hard to locate in that situation, I was thinking things like say, Planets, large space stations and things of similar size, in other words, things that can be seen relatively easily at large distances.
