I'm creating my first true roleplaying ship and need some pointers.
Ship: DSV-Dauntless (or DSV-Intrepid)
Aligned: Liberty Navy
Mission: Explore all systems. Report findings. This mission will be a test of endurance for the crew, and quarters as well as ship manueverability will need be considered.
I'm thinking either the Talarca Light Cruiser or the Outcast Destroyer, both due to the compactness of the ship design for manuevers in space. Initially I wanted to get the Battlestar Advanced, but it's just too big, and the Liberty Navy wouldn't commission something that large for such a quest.
Any other thoughts as to ship purchase, equipment?
I'll have a crew of 8, and I'll always have water and food rations in the cargo hold. Any other roleplay necessities?
Please help me out here, and don't respond if you're just going to flame me for my roleplay newbness.

I'd suggest a Liberty Gunboat, if it's going to be aligned with the Navy. No way for Liberty to really get their hands on the other ships you mentioned. Gunboat has a good sized cargo hold (around 300 or 400), which should hold plunty of rations, and a crew of around 8 is probably about right.
Next point... money is no object here. This ship will be well fortified and prepared to engage if need be. The cargo space on the gunboat is pretty limited when the armor upgrade is considered. Is there a second choice? A capital ship a bit larger? I REALLy dislike the liberty cruiser... ugly and a slow turner, hehe.

EDIT:
Hmm, looking at the options in the readme file then, I think I"m going to switch this to Kusari, and go with the Destroyer. Of course, name change is necessary, but the ship more fits the needs/mission.
I don't think you need to worry about cargo space; consider 1 unit = 1 ton of cargo and I think your crew of 8 would survive quit a long time.
I did most of my exploration of this mod with a Camara freighter wearing a 70k point transport shield by the way, so I'd hope you could succeed with a gunboat; unless your goal is to fight everywhere rather than exploration.
"To gain a hundred victories in a hundred battles is not the highest excellence;
to subjugate the enemy's army without doing battle is the highest of excellence."
Yeah, I started off doing a lot of exploring. Used a Turanic Raiders Freighter and a Neutral ID. But if you want to be exploring for a House, then a Neutral ID won't do. And a freighter is only good for a couple of people, tops... If your RP requires a crew of 8, then most freighters would be too small.
Could consider the Kusari Cruise Liner (aka the "Beetle"). It's a transport that can (currently) mount a gunboat shield, has plunty of cargo space (even if you add a capship armor upgrade). And it's pretty much designed for dangerous deep space journeys. Not very good at killing things, though.
And is 1 cargo unit really supposed to be 1 ton? So... One prisoner takes up the same room as 1 ton of cargo? And if that was the case, all those tiny little light fighters with 20+ cargo space would need to be a LOT bigger than they are... Not to mention the VHFs with 60+...

Well, I've done most of the exploring in my Cargo Trans with my Zoner aligned character. The fact that I have only Guard and Admin factions as red to me has made the exploration somewhat less fun. Thus, I'm looking for a bit of competition with an aligned, non-neutral character. I don't think I'll be getting along with any criminal element, so the fight is expected.

Good luck in all the guard systems.
I am thinking that this would be good fodder for some kind of Sirius betting pool.
Such as, how many times will he get killed before he finishes?
Can he actually get close enough to the Temple of the Revenant to take a photo?
et cetera

Hmm, actually my current gunboat is corsair. The shots fired at me from the Temple didn't even nick the shields. I'm probably asking way too much out of any one ship... which may be way out of RP.
I think I'll reserve the name, and wait until the next patch. Maybe a more suitable ship for the journey will turn up then.
